Comes with advance, retarded, or spot on for crank gear positions.

I know this engine has a stock can, and the stock rotation before diassembly aligns with the straight cut on the new set.

Even with a stock camshaft, stock everything, could I still use the other cuts to move my torque band or do I need a different cam grind?

I need it as low as possible. Below 3000. 3500 at the most.

Sorry for the simplistic questions.

In all my engine play around, this honestly is the first Mopar I've had apart,or bought parts for.

After this swap and I out grew diapers,I went Chevy. Now I've had kids and could care less to be happy, I'm getting into this Mopar to clean up the backyard before I die.

Ha. Sad but true.

So I'd rather double check before bending valves and making another headache.
 
I put crank gear in wrong position(1 of 3 like yours) and was setting valves on sft 273. Bent pushrods, thankfully on engine stand at the time.
 
Stock rotating Assembly, can I use the other marks and not bend valves?

I did remember dad shorting a stretched chain to get to work some 3rd shift on the weekend and not to get fired.

Said it'd roach tires and break ujoints

After he put in a new non worn gear it was a turd again.

What's a sft273?

Is that like a 747 with 8 engines or 16?

What's the OEM Mopar cam#?
 
Alright guys, I tried all 3, and the old chain I'm sure I could pick any of those 3 positions, and the cam wouldn't move......

So I guess I have choices.

I'm just curious if this standards chain and time will work with such position choices on stock everything. I'd imaging 4 degrees on the crank isn't that much?

They say 4R and 4A

I think I won. This should be its 5th chain and gear....

And honestly, if I go 4 degrees advanced or retarded, I wonder if one can still run that sloppy?

I parked this machine after digging my basement. No joke.

Set zero, then adjusting for 4 degrees, then adding slop?

Sounds disastrous. Wonder how far,one can go before kissing valves?

I need all the torque I can get below 3500rpm. Seems like I can run any of these 3 cuts without bending valves on OEM rotating assembly with this kit I bought.

After stretch I think I've been running 4 degrees retarded, higher.torque curve, and the machine does everything low rpm

Oh. Well. Used 4a on the crank, found a laser lever and shot a line through all 4 circles. Both shafts and the dots all on center., 12oclock

Did I degree it correctly? I had to turn the cam a whisker to make it all work.

Before disassembly, and parking the machine, I lined the balancer to 0* TDC and rotor to #1 book, and did a plug check on #1, then slipped everything apart, I made sure the crank didn't turn using the puller.


My adjustment was Alot less then all that damn slop. Jesus. I can't be that far off.

You didn't degree it at all. You just lined some dots up. Isn't this in a piece of heavy equipment? Just put it on the zero mark and line the dots up and let it go.
 
Weird. I thought all the dots at when at 12olock were both zero, factory cam timing.

If you use a different key for advanced, the way I read the directions, is the crank is ndexed 4* degrees advanced.

Maybe I didn't read the directions correctly.

What's blowing my mind, is the 3 sharpie dots I made, with the old gear and chain, so worn out, I can match any of those 3 dots of difference, and the cam doesn't move.

Hence this should of been its 5th chain joke.

I'm pretty sure I was on the edge of loosing the timing, tooth jump or chain stretch allowing valve bump

It is. And my rev limit is 2800rpm for the hydraulics. I was reading these directions as 4 degrees of crank directions said nothing of the other two alignments needing different can shafts. And the result would advance crank timing to bring the torque curve sooner from idle.

So I uses the 4a keyway, slid right on, and the cam was a half of key clocked, so I moved it a bit and everything dropped into place

I slid the cover back on and balancer and its still on the zero.

I guess if I did something wrong I'm not understanding it.

At the same time, I am assuming this is a factory cam. Is that the risk here since its not a nylon gear?

Be a shame to advance on an advanced cam?

It's not on zero if you used the advanced slot. Just use the zero slot.
 
Haha. My bad.

When the cover is on with 4a dots aligned its a fuzz before the 5* mark

I'm good

I'm curious how much slop there is in the end of the distributor before my points and timing gun, before the 4degree zero adjustment

I assumed the same.


That gif video I made shows more then a couple degrees either way, doesn't it? Website doesn't allow mp4 videos.

So I made an ugly gif.

But wow yeah, that old chain has some hours on it. And the old set had 1 keyway. So I was going to try the 4a cut, but seems that risks bending valves somehow? Honestly I think my chain was letting me flop 6 degrees both ways.

So half of that upstairs on the cam.

I don't want to pull the intake, not sure if I can poke something down and catch a lifter to get a read,
