Mike,
I would be happier than a pig in poop to have you as my neighbor! You would be welcome on my property any day of the week. Nice to know that some people are thinking of other people than themselves.
sweattybetty,
Let me give you an example of what happens when the "Authorities" are called. I had 42.5 acres of land in a very rural part of southern Colorado. One of my neighbors had 6 dogs protecting his livestock. After many years of peaceful co-existence between all of us (about 6 people on about 450 acres combined), a new crystal worshiping PETA member moved in. She found a dead mule deer fawn on her property and immediately called the DOW on my dog owning friend. They visted him and without examining the fawn (it was obviously killed by coyotes), made him fence in the dogs when he was indoors. Two weeks later he had two dead mules, shredded by the local coyote population. He called the DOW and they came out and declared it an act of God, but he still has to keep his dogs in. He is now losing an average of 2 animals a month. More during the calving season. This could have all been avoided with a vist to his property and could have been worked out.
Mike knew this kid's Grandparents and probably prevented him from going to jail, and the dog from being put down. I am a firm believer that good fences make good neighbors, but I sure as hell would want to know if there was an emergency or problem on my property before the government did. The real problem with today's society is that everone wants the government to protect them, feed them, etc. but won't lift a finger to do the right thing when it's needed. :angry4:
