well done  realy hope the kid will learn something...
have had 2 dogs and if i had ever needed to chose between food for the dog or for me, the dog would have food even if i would kill myself feeding the dog insted of myself ;)
if i had been you, there would have been a kid in the hospital and i would probably be locked up in jail already

Mike,

I would be happier than a pig in poop to have you as my neighbor! You would be welcome on my property any day of the week. Nice to know that some people are thinking of other people than themselves.

sweattybetty,

Let me give you an example of what happens when the "Authorities" are called. I had 42.5 acres of land in a very rural part of southern Colorado. One of my neighbors had 6 dogs protecting his livestock. After many years of peaceful co-existence between all of us (about 6 people on about 450 acres combined), a new crystal worshiping PETA member moved in. She found a dead mule deer fawn on her property and immediately called the DOW on my dog owning friend. They visted him and without examining the fawn (it was obviously killed by coyotes), made him fence in the dogs when he was indoors. Two weeks later he had two dead mules, shredded by the local coyote population. He called the DOW and they came out and declared it an act of God, but he still has to keep his dogs in. He is now losing an average of 2 animals a month. More during the calving season. This could have all been avoided with a vist to his property and could have been worked out.

Mike knew this kid's Grandparents and probably prevented him from going to jail, and the dog from being put down. I am a firm believer that good fences make good neighbors, but I sure as hell would want to know if there was an emergency or problem on my property before the government did. The real problem with today's society is that everone wants the government to protect them, feed them, etc. but won't lift a finger to do the right thing when it's needed. :angry4:

Just read all of the post... like everyone has said, your a good guy !! I have a neighbor that had a Lab ...about maybe 2 1/2 yrs old. They got him when he was a pup ( kids) wanted a dog thing, anyway him and his wife both worked, kids in school. They kept this poor dog in a little cage all day. As the dog got older he got mean ...wonder why !!! Then one time they were away for a week and no one came to take care of the dog... thought they took him with them but when they came home didn't have the dog. So I asked him about the dog...his answer !!! oh we had the dog put to sleep because he was getting to hard to control !! I could have just whipped his a$$ right there. Then the kicker, he said that they put him to sleep the day they left for vacation...earlier that day !! Haven't talked to the A$$hole since. They have since then also got another dog !!! I'm watching his a$$.
Didn't mean to make this into a book but it still pisses me off when I think about it.

I would call animal welfare, they will check in to it and remove the animal if there is a problem.

I wouldn't trust animal control, the poor dog might meet a worst fate.
Go grab the Mutt and give Socket a boink-buddy.

This is Angel, our 12 yr. old Sheperd-Lab-Terrier shedding machine. I love this Mutt almost as much as my wife, and more than some people I know! If anyone F`ed with her I'd B-B-Q their intestines and feed them to her....

Good work. If it keeps up, take the dog. Then, go back, knock the ***hole out, take him out into the woods, and chain him to a tree. Put some food and water about two feet beyond his reach. If there are bears around your way, cover him with honey.
