Trick Flow small block heads

-
I heard a slight stumble off the line and could be a small piece of the 60" foot problem.
but like has been said and you agree. Time to ring out the combo. The mph is there, you just have to dig for the rest.
By the way it sound real good.:thumbsup:

Let’s give this a little stir.......:poke:

In its current overall configuration........ I think the first cam you bought would be quicker.:D

Likely so, if you are referring to that [email protected]” solid I initially planned on using? And to think I spent so much time deciding on that particular one and then went all weak kneed and wishy-washy! :realcrazy:

In my mind it I thought it was [email protected]....... but the 255 would work too.

The fast rate stuff does work well...... when/if it makes it thru the break in.
Ultimately It was not only the break-in, but concerns of later on, motor not being run for periods of time, sometimes driving it in colder weather after spells of dormancy and possibly wiping a lobe. Preventative measures aside I wasn’t up to answering the question “Do I feel lucky”

It was more of a delay, like the converter didn’t flash as high as it had in the previous combo (3500) but then it comes to life like it always has, but I can’t recall if it did it the other (first) run or what exact rpm’s it was at etc, my multitasking (along with focus and recall) needs some refreshing for sure

I'm waiting for my buddy Rumblefish to jump in with his cam choice. Rob, are you out there? Never mind, I see he's in the mix.

I lost .10-.16 on my 1.58 best (1.60 average) previous setup 60’ times.

To those who are regularly at the track, I’m just stating the obvious.......
Losing(going slower) .10-.15 in 60’ is a huge deficit to try and overcome farther down track.
The fact that the ET was still better at the finish is a good sign.

Just need to get the cam and converter on the same page.

I’ve whittled down my vans weight to about 3050 with 5 gallons of fuel (iron heads) but haven’t weighed it yet with the TF’s, likely hovering right around 3000 I reckon. Unfortunately I can’t seem to whittle down the gut!
It’s like walking a tightrope when putting a combo together. But the heavier the vehicle the thinner that tightrope gets.

You’re close to my son then. He’s 3250 at the line in his Duster and has no plans of making it lighter. He went 10.11 with my old Edelbrock headed 408 with only a heavy fiberglass six pac hood scoop. Everything else is stock plus a 6 or 8 point cage and frame connectors.

Thankfully I had the chassis setup pretty good for the previous incarnation. Adding the DA QA1’s all around really helped. Recommendation requests are already in and a couple calls will be made this week as I continue with carb tuning etc. I’m thinking in the rough ballpark of around 4800 but will definitely take the professionals advice. A month or so ago PTC recommended an 8” at I think it was 5200, but I’m looking at Dynamic and Ultimate as well. We’ll see.....

My last combo.......
Quite a bit heavier(3670), smaller motor(388”), smaller cam(256), way less head flow(235), dual plane intake(rpm).
I ran an 8” in that...... flashed 5400.
Mid/low-1.50’s 60’(best of 1.51).

We went from a 4400 to a 5600 stall in my sons car and he picked up over .50 in the 1/4. But with Caltracs and drag radials his car practically dead hooks.

Hasn’t anybody else been out running at the track with these heads all these months? Or maybe other things got in the way over the summer like in my case? I finally got to the track today after a good 6 month strip hiatus. Mostly worked on finding the ideal throttle blade settings, bleed and restrictor combos for running around on the street. At the track today did some jetting testing. Best today was a 7.28 et and a tic over 94 Mph in the 1/8, got the 60’ to 1.59 and the 330’ down to 4.66. Still more in it with some more tuning even with just using the 3500 stall TA, but at least I got it back to somewhat launching like it used to. Yeah, gonna need some more stall to reach full potential. Too damn lazy and busy still to tear into it for a change out. Runs so damn good on the street but it’s coming. Then I’ll see what it really can do.

Where are all you other TF head guys with some updates?

All I can add is I just order my second head. It’s backordered till late December so hopefully I have the first head ported by then and my valve, seat machine running in case I want to go with bigger valves.

I don’t recall once you work them over as to what car they are going on. Have you determined that yet?

Lol. No I haven’t. With two sets of 360-1 heads (one set I have to weld on) I’m not really sure. If I hadn’t just put my best to date 208 valve set on Edelbrock heads on my 408 they would go on there. But I’m not tearing those back off. I already removed my moved pushrod heads that were sucking oil. I have a real nice brand new .030 (360) shortblock waiting on heads but it’s a stock 360 crank cut down to Chevy rods so I don’t want to lean on that combo to hard. It’s a very nice engine with Wiseco pistons, Crower Rods, and a .660 lift roller cam.
