I know a lot of you guys said that you have used the Alterktion coil over system. For any of you out there that swapped it on a 68 cuda, do you know what the round about change was "weight wise"? I know that setup is lighter, but how much are we talking? Thanks in advance.

I don't know what the weight savings is but whatever A-body it is, it should be the same. If no one chimes in (but I think ABJ will), you can always call/email Bill Reilly and ask him directly.

I had thought about giving him a call tomorrow and asking. Just one of those sleepless nights so I figured I'd do some math. I'm trying to calculate a round about E/T so I know what all safety features I have to incorporate into my build so I don't get flagged the first pass at the track once this thing is done. The motor will be finished here in a week or two hopefully and I'm stoked! So I'm trying to see what else I have to save for to make this thing safe as possible for the track. I have no idea what it's gonna turn out when it's finally cut loose for it's first pass, but I can't wait to find out! :-D

I am glad to hear that it is coming along so quickly. I remember you mentioning possibly selling it when you were abroad. You must have some idea what you might be running with the Barracuda. Do tell.

Yeah, hard times came real quick when I got back from Afghanistan as if they weren't hard enough out there.(and I'm leaving to go back in November. Round 5 :angry7:) I was considering selling it for a while, but I made that mistake with my first 68. So I cut back on spending in every aspect possible so I could keep my baby. 8 months later and I'm back on track and ready to roll!! I will post what I just wrote in the racer's forum, it's pretty much the basics of the build. From there you can see where I'm going with it and hopefully help me fill in some holes as what to plan for. Here it is......It's a 68 Notchback, 440, 8 3/4, haven't decided about a/c yet but it will have power steering. Figure I can just use the old a/c method for a while 85 degrees x 10 mph cross wind x 55mph cruising speed :iconbigg:
Here's where the guesstimation gets a little tricky. I know you guys are gonna be angry, but the tranny is a TH400! Well the outside is, the guts are, as Campbell Enterprises put it "bulletproof up to about 1500HP" (We'll see). The engine is in it's finishing stages at CNC motor sports. Now a 514ci with the Dyer's 8-71 setup. Couldn't find the weight for this setup on their website, I'll have to call them. I told Jason at CNC Motor Sports that I wanted 1000HP out of it, with room to build in the future if need be. I am going to be purchasing the RMS Alterktion coil over system which has a weight of approx. 132lbs. Still trying to get the difference between that and stock. Street Lynx rear end kit. As far as tires go, still not sure how tall and wide a tire I'm gonna have to run to hook up.(Any feedback on that issue would be greatly appreciated) This is my largest build I've ever done by about 400HP so I'm taking it a step at a time to ensure everything will be as sturdy and safe as possible. Been about 8 years since I've done any strip racing. Pretty much when I joined the Corps is when it ended, but I do miss the hell out of it! So I'm slowly gonna creep my way back into it and try not to kill myself in the process. Any inputs you guys have out there, I would love to hear them. Any suggestions or changes as well. I've learned you can never know it all so I have a very opened mind when it comes to veteran racers. Hope this info helps a little. Any other questions, I'll be more than happy to answer to the best of my knowledge.

it depends on whats in your car now. you have power steering? disc or drum brakes? sway bar?

people have seen as much as 80-90 pounds weight savings with the alter-k. but that all depends if you get a power rack, sway bar, and what brakes you choose to use.

i see no problem with going to a gm trans. only thing i would look at is maybe an OD unit. can they build one to your power out put? isn't the 700r clost the the dimensions of a 400? i'm not sure but i thought they were.

I think so Joe. IIRC, the TH400 and 700R4 are the same length. They can be built pretty solid, but how much horsepower...not sure.
