Finally done.

Since I'm not using a booth, I ended up sanding the top coat with k800 and laying down another coat of 2K black bringing the total to 3. This ensures that the base is perfectly flat and it removes any fine dust or crud that landed on the bumpers as they were drying.

Then it came time to lay the Alsa chrome paint on. This took some practice to get the fluid/air pressure correct, but at $160.00 per 6oz (not fluid oz) I couldn't practice much. This stuff is hideously expensive!

But damn, it laid down nicely! They're still baking in the sun. Evidently the longer they're in the sun, the more shiny they get.

I will top this with 2K clear in about 2 weeks. That'll protect the chrome coat.

Overall I'm very happy with how these came out. I held them next to the spare chrome bumpers I've got, and I couldn't tell the difference unless I touched them. Highly recommend this stuff.

Those look awesome!! How much of the 6oz did you use one the two bumpers. And what'd you apply it with?

Skill Level: Up there! Nice job.

Thanks man!

I ended up using 15oz total, so 2.5 of their 6oz EZ chrome containers. That gave me 3 coats. The last coat I had the fluid knob fully open and I set the inlet pressure to 19psi. That equates to about 11psi at the cap. That gave them a good thick layer without any runs or sags. The Alsa stuff is SUPER thin, so you've got to move fast. I normally paint about 2-3" per second but I bumped that 5" per second.

I used a Iwata LPH400 with the orange 1.3 cap for all of the base coats and the 1.0 cap for the chrome coat.

^^^^ amen! Now take that or even add in a few more #-ft, toss in a 5000 stall converter, and you'll know why I grin and tout these strokers!

Working on installing this Bad Boy. Not the direction I wanna go. But I've run out of options

Gotta unstick or is it unstuck the transmission out of second gear. Was driving it to work yesterday, downshifted from 3rd and wouldn't come out of 2nd. Luckily turned I was able to around in a 4 way side street at 5::00am and limped home.

I would like to get more done but it was 119 yesterday and more of the same for awhile…

I see this started at 7:22. I was on the road to work and just now got a chance for a quick break. So I try to check in. I have no idea how many cups of coffee I have had by this point. And Rani....no fair going back to bed!
Ok, time to fuel your body for another 5 to 6 hours, yep, on the road would not suit me.

Jump back in and keep us updated please please
Thank you for sharing this here Jim, great job going on and getting it nice to work on

Engine is back in its home. Hoping to fire this puppy within the next week or so. It's been in the mid 90s all week and my shop is like a furnace. Finding motivation to go turn wrenches and sweat my butt off is in short supply after working 60hrs.

Should be worth it :)

Well crap…. Now my work begins. Best $1500 I have ever spent. The rust is dead inside and out. My enthusiasm for the project is at an all time high!

And I’m spent. And out of Epoxy. This thing has a LOT of surface area. Used 2 gallons of SPI red oxide epoxy already.

OK, so don't laugh at my welds..... Actually, feel free to laugh at them, just don't tell me that you are. :D

Started out pulling the old wiring harness. What a hacked up mess that thing is. New one inbound from Classic.

Started cleaning the engine bay and pulled a nasty fiberglass band-aid. I feel better about the integrity of the joining and hood torsion bars.

Bringing home another.
Its missing the windshield, which I picked up yesterday. Has a set of good doors, with installed glass. 360 car with no motor or trans, has 8.75 rear with a Sure Grip, 391 gears and Moser axels. New brake lines, back drum brakes, new front discs. Nice dash pad, good seats...ugly but good. Aside from the hood everything is there. A nice project the previous owner was unable to finish. I hope I can

Nothing to the car physically, but we did pick up a running 904 from a 72 318 Duster for Josh's 73 Sprt "Fred" for 100 bucks. It will lay in the corner of the garage for a year and get a basic rebuild/refresh when the time comes to put the driveline together.

Got bugged from fellow car show attendees about parking in a handicap spot yesterday.
