I am running a 440 bored .030 in my Duster. It has I think 452 heads. It has a Mopar 509/292 purple cam. It has Keith Black pistons.I am looking to replace the heads. I was either thinking about closed chamber heads or maybe going with Edelbrock RPM heads. What would be a good head to give me more compression and a little more power. Thanks,Bill
 
You want more power get rid of the hydraulic cam . Or just put solids on your cam. Getting 1967 close chambered 915 heads would not be my choice over new aluminum heads. You'll get more money into redoing old heads then it would cost to by new aluminum heads. And you''l still have old cast iron heads .

We have a machine shop so this info hurts us but I am just being honest. If your building a factory spec engine for a restore then have your heads redone. For a go fast engine go with aftermarket.

what I am looking for would be a suggestion on which head to get. I am not a engine guru. What specs on the head am I looking for. I was looking at the Edelbrock 60189 heads but I dont know anything about what CC to look at.what do you suggest since you have a machine shop.
 
Some KB pistons have a quench dome for use with open chamber heads.
You either need the part number of the pistons in the motor, or get a look in the cylinder with an inspection camera thru a spark plug hole…….to determine what you have for pistons.

What are you talking about. I am looking for what heads to replace my 452 one for more compression. I am not asking anything about KB pistons. I know I have KB pistons in there. I put them in 25 years ago.
 

We need to know what KB pistons you have. The pistons tell us what head you need.

KB makes lots of different pistons.

All I know is they are flat top pistons. I put them in 25 years ago and cant remember what the number is.
 
I've looked at 440 Source's "Stealth" heads for many years. The prices are nice. I haven't pulled the trigger but I get closer every day.
 
With flat tops, you can use any heads.


“Most” aftermarket heads have angled plugs, which isn’t always a good match with some headers.

If you feel you need straight plugs, I think the only currently available options are Stealths or Ede 5093’s.

Everything else is angle plug.

Readily available chamber volumes for the various heads are:
88, 84, 81-82, 78, 75
(Different volumes for different heads)

You can play with the on line compression calculators to see how the various chamber volumes will affect the CR.

Arguably, the “easiest” path forward is Stealth heads.
You’d likely only need heads, head bolts, gaskets.

thank you. I thought about going with 915 heads but some people dont like them.
 
Unless you have a line on a set of pretty nicely done 915’s for a very reasonable price, that don’t need a full rebuild, then it’s probably less expensive to go with the Stealths.
 
I used the Stealth heads with a Cometic .027 thick gasket to bump my compression a little bit. I have flat pistons and ended up just inside the "suggested" compression range of my Hyd cam. I ran them straight out of the box with no issues, buts it is widely suggested to have a machine shop give them a bill of health before installation.
 
If flat tappet go with Eddie E streets with the 75 CC chamber. Cheaper than most and smaller chamber to accomplish what you are asking for
