It stays on for 2 min or so and then turns off.

I’m not familiar with a 66 Dart dash. It looks like it’s in the right area for the high beam indicator; I suppose it could be the Idiot light for the oil pressure but my money is on the high beam indicator

High beam. It should not turn on or off unless you actuate the foot dimmer switch

That's pretty goofy. Yes it is the high beam indicator and 66's don't have any lights that time out. Now idea why it would do that.

Could there be a bad or worn out circuit breaker in the headlight switch? Maybe it would take about two minutes for it to pop the breaker?

No circuit breaker. Just fuses.

Circuit breaker is internal to headlight switch. It is bi-metalic, gets hot from too much current, and opens. Short to ground happens in dimmer switch, wiring, or dropped bulb filament.

I beg to differ, circuit breakers, lighting systems, (integral with headlamp switch) 15 amp.

Never too old to learn. I have never had a headlight switch apart or had any reason to find it in the manual. How come the indicator is on then? Shouldn't the high beams on if the indicator is lit?

You could have a cluster ground problem. If the cluster / printed circuit board has some problem AND THE LIGHTS ARE OFF and the LIGHT SWITCH IS OFF it could be that the ground for that indicator lamp is floatiing, and being "backfed" from something else in the cluster

So far as I know, ALL OEM light switches have an integrated breaker since "I can remember."

Bad ground in the light circuit back feeding and illuminating the high beam indicator. Clean all your ground points in the headlight circuit.

If it happens with the light switch off, then I agree it is probably due to bad ground building up voltage well above BATT-, which causes current to flow thru the indicator bulb. The way that can happen is that the high-side of the indicator bulb likely goes to the Hi-beam wire & bulb which is a path to a better ground. To prove that, unplug both headlights (or their ground if you can find it).
