Looking for feedback/recommendations for the header selection when doing a Gen III hemi swap. I know the usual suspects all offer them but which ones fit nicely with a factory style k-member, manual steering gear box, and a modern automatic transmission?

I can only answer for the Holley (Hooker) shorties. They can't be used except for with the Holley mounts and a '73+ spool mount k-frame. And they are really close to, or even just slightly crash with, the drivers side inner fender. Plus the DS might only be able to be installed before the motor is dropped in, per the Holley instructions.

Add that since it is all a kit, there are drawbacks. The Holley mounts move the motor forward about 1.75" so the stock trans crossmember won't work. But if you are going with something modern, you will probably have to rebuild that anyways. And Holley has (used to have?) parts that would bolt a 727/904 up without cutting.

That said, I think the Holley kit has some nice advantages. Other than rebuilding the trans tunnel, it's pretty much a bolt in and clears the SRV module on the 6.4 intakes, or the Hellcat intercooler manifold, allows for the low mount AC compressor and doesn't require a remote oil filter kit if the 90 degree adapter is used.

Not perfect, but I am pretty pleased with it all so far.

Sorry, kind of long winded. But the answer is more complex due to the nature of all the parts working together.

What he said...... holley is a kit you cant really use the hooley stuff with other brand mounts etc. As above the drivers side is a pain in the bum i may need to slightly adjust to get it to fit.

I contacted Holley and they only offer the kit for spool mount k-members for Dusters

I did say that in my post. But the later spool mount k-frames aren't that hard to find. It adds work though.

Something I forgot about is that the Holley oil pan doesn't work with the '67-72 centerlink. The bend is different and it hits the oil pan at full lock in a RH turn. Not related to headers, but something to be aware of in regards to the swap as a whole.

I have used the two inch primary tube TTI in a 74 Swinger. It also had the spool mounts. I ran a 727 trans, however. My only experience with TTI and modern trans is in a 63 D-100. 5.7 with a 545rfe. The headers were meant for the 72-93 chassis. The passenger side header was identical to a passenger side car header. With the 545rfe being kinda chunky, I would think the headers would clear others as well. Can't say with certainty though.

Yea was a bloke who did it a year or so ago and when going lock to lock would hit the pan, from memory he notched the pan i cant remember the build thread name tho. Thats why i have used Holley everything to make sure no issues as Australia a long way away to send stuff back haha

Sorry. The simplest fix is a 73+ centerlink, idler and pitman arm. You don't have to change the k-frame to run those parts, they all bolt in. Even your tie rod ends will work. It's money, but might be easier than notching aluminum pan.

Also, that pan has some control channels on the inside of it that would get cut if you had to notch it.

I bought the dropped 73+ center link for my 70 Duster from Mancini Racing. I am putting a 650 HP stroked 6.1 hemi in my duster.
