Hi folks. I've been looking at some service manual diagrams for my 64 Valiant and noticed that there are quite a few models. How can I tell what I have. The manual shows AP, AR and AV models also with a number 1 or 2 after them.
Can I decode it from the vin or is there a more common way?
Thanks, Wally

I was only aware of Aussie Valiants using designations like that- maybe Canadian builds used them too, though.

AV is Valiant, AP is Plymouth 119" WB, AR is Plymouth 116" WB...1 is 6 cyl, 2 is V8. AL is Dart

Book says A series is 65 but Im not sure what a 64 would be...maybe same.

Canadian Valiants had a Dart rear and a Valiant front clip.

Yes -- but only in '63 and '64.

An AV2 would be a '65 US-body (106" wheelbase) Valiant with a V8 engine. A '64 Canadian Valiant with a V8 is a VVX2, as follows:

V-100: VVX2-L
V-200: VVX2-H
Signet: VVX2-P

There are wiring and other differences in the Canadian-built cars; a US manual's wiring diagrams won't be 100% accurate on a Canadian car.

Interesting stuff. In 65 the Canadian Valiants were American Darts with Valiant badging. Did they have Valiant interiors? I remember seeing a Valiant dash in one if I remember correctly.

Well…some of them were. In '65 (only), Canadians could buy Valiant-shaped Valiants (106" wheelbase) and Dart-shaped Valiants (111" wheelbase). In '66 all Canadian Valiants were Dart-shaped.

Did they have Valiant interiors?

My '65 Valiant Custom 200 was a Dart 270 complete with "AL-1" model code and Dart interior and dashboard. Without digging out the parts cattledogs, I am pretty sure all the Canadian-built '65 Valiants, including the Baccarudas, had the Dart dashboard. It's complicated by Chrysler Canada having imported some US-built Valiants (complete with Valiant dashboards) in '65 on account of a strike or something that reduced production capacity in Canada.
