Who has the best timing chain available for s.b.

Pete Jackson dual idlers sound harsh, the gears are straight cut and have a piece of paper clearance. I think the dual idler design gives off more sound than a fixed idler system. Duals are cheaper to make and fit under stock timing covers. I ran one in my 451 and the noise was tolerable, but the whole car was loud.

Romac Rollmaster Gold series CS5010...Nitride hardened cogs, German chain. 7-9 keyway and torrington bearing as well as line bore 'minus' sizes.

Correct. A properly installed fixed idler gear drive makes zero noise. The small block GD will fit under a stock timing cover. IIRC, the small and big block Chevy and big block mopars need a cover because the idler gear is in the cover. IIRC there is some Ford and other GM stuff that fits under a stock TC.

No custom cut and welding of the time mint chain cover?

I've run these for years/decades...

I had one in an engine that I had decided to refresh after 125 k, but when I tore into it, the chain was in good shape with minimal stretch... It was still useable, but since I had already bought a new one, I threw that on anyway... I ran that one over 200 k with no problems...

Correct me if I am wrong? I can find that timing set but not with -5 I only see it for big blocks.??

The Milodon doesn't come in a noisy or quiet version. Those are dual idler gear drives and I'd use a timing chain before I used one of those.
Right was wondering on the post of timing chain ect, I prolly got to get the gear drive and pray it's quiet!

I used to like Cloyes back when the chains were made by Renold. The last one I pulled out of the box (a few years ago) said Olon on the chain, which is a cheaper chain. It had slop right from day one and I told the guy not to run it, but it was just a cruiser, so he ran it anyway. I don't know who makes a decent chain anymore.

you are very right and I was wrong I was thinking pete Jackson offered for the bb rb hemi and they also are duel idler . I near got one in 89 for a 383 . that was a long time ago now memory fades .

I only wish my memory was fading. Seems like I completely forget important stuff. My little dog had a grooming appointment yesterday. She called to remind me Wednesday afternoon. Just remembered an hour ago. Made a new appointment.

Getting old isn't for sissies.

I use pro gear timeing set, Hughes engines.
I will not buy anything from Hughes, when they sell me valve springs for there cam for $160 and I could have bought the same junk springs from jegs for 80, that guy is the biggest scam. That's just a small portion of what I could tell u bout Hughes.

I've used the Summit billet roller for years on everything. I also use the MP tensioner. Reasonable cost on both, no issues over thousands of miles either.

Somewhere on this forum is a video of my car running. You can't hear it. The ones you can hear are the ones I don't run.

The Milodon has a fixed idler gear and goes under a stock timing cover.
Was around a old school 340 roller cam build.. Had a Milodon g.d. on it, was QUIET ..compared to Pete Jackson, or Chinese cheapies..
JMHO ...chains ...Edelbrock, Rollmaster..
To add, to the subject.... I usually use a machined precision straight edge, on sideways timing gears alignment , parallel sideways view... add yours, to possibly help..the OP....

Milodon.

It's called a gear drive.

Wouldn't mention it because you asked about a timing chain, but the Milodon GD is bullet proof, you'll never have to buy another one and, your cam timing will be the same on the engine stand, on the first fire up, and 100k miles later.

Got that on my wishlist.

I only wish I could get my dog to use the phone. I can't even get him to talk.

Milidon gesr drive is the way to go. Solid timing, no noise, no stretched chain.
Installed correctly that gear drive is bulletproof, way better than any chain will ever be.
Had on a 422 x block build. Rock solid timing.

Im really shocked if there isn't much noise I got one ordered. After buying the best cloyes and having Dyno time and Less than 100 miles on it, its totally junk loose.
