Went on a 1000 mile road trip and blew a tire 50 miles in. Contemplating running the same size so I can have a spare that works everywhere.

On my 65 Dart station wagon i will be running 215-14 x 70 all 4 corners plus the same size spare

same rim and tire all the way around

Currently running 205/65R15 all four corners on my Swinger. Similar to factory height, just a touch wider.

My wagon will be running 195/75R14 all round, just because it's one of the only sizes I can get whitewalls in.
My Dak runs 225/60R15s in front and 245/60R15s in back, with a 215/70R15 spare.

If you like the staggered look, just do what I plan on doing. Run the same diameter front and rear, but go wider on the rear. My plan is to run 205 70 14s on the front and 245 60 14s on the rear. You can do similar with 15s. That way, you can carry one spare.

67 Barracuda. 215/70-14 on 14x5.5 rally wheels.

Considering that this size won't fit in the spare well (I have a 185/70-14 in there), and that I have an SG rear axle that can't handle mismatched sizes, it's critical that I have the ability to swap tires front and rear in an emergency. I'm not one of those people that calls for a tow every time there's a problem. I like to be self-reliant, and I often drive in areas with no cell service.

I was running 215/65R15's up front and 245/60R15's in the rear, 165/80R15 (25.3") front runner as a spare. I wrecked one of the 245's and all we had in stock at work was 235/70R15's (used them for the trip but not a fan)
I like the idea of being able to rotate them also (fronts always end up chopping)

I ran 225/60/15's on all 4 corners of my Duster for awhile with cop wheels, 15x7 with a 4.25" backspace. Now staggered with 275/35/18's on 18x9's in the front with 295/40/18's in the back on 18x10's.

What car?
Does it matter if the spare fits in the spare tire well?
If you go staggered I would want the spare the same size as the front. I personally would rather have the one size smaller tire (if you only go one size difference) on the rear if it went flat instead of a wider spare and having to put it on the front if that went flat.
Mine are 235x60/14 front 245x60/14 rear and my spare is a 235x60/14.

1969 Dart
It would be nice (something I didn't take into consideration until mentioned here)

On my ‘79 Magnum I run the same size tire on all 4 plus the spare. It makes life easier on me on the car trips should stuff happen. It makes sense.

Other cars of mine have the off set. Street machines that don’t go far. The spare is the same size as the front since driving with two different steering sizes is awful. If it’s that way on the back, the rear differential handles the issue until I get a correct size back there.

My plan is to carry a plug kit with a tiny air em up 4x4 compressor.

Hoping that i don't blow out a sidewall.
I ran over a valve stem (with the core removed) while passing someone, it was flat by the time I got back into the right lane.

I'm leaning towards buying another pair of 215/65R15's. I could run 235's and they'd be roughly the same height as the 215's but is it really worth it for .72".........

Then one size all around is your answer.
