Why is Pro Stock Dodge down on horsepower ?

-
Yes,Billy made the 6 second club with the NOS...long before his Dad

I think it was Rusty Glidden not Billy that used NOS in PS

And that's exactly why they built the Demon!

Wait. That doesn't make sense.

I think Fiat does give a ****. But only about where they can actually win. And that's why they pulled out. Why keep racing in a class you know you can't win? Take some time off. Develop better engines/tech, while saving money not racing. Then come back and win. I wouldn't be surprised if we see them back in a couple years fielding much better (read winning) cars. I think this is shown in the fact that even though they pulled out of pro stock, they are still pushing and supporting the other classes they are in.

As for why other teams aren't winning? RPM limit hurts. The new fuel injection rules hurt. Hell I was reading somewhere that one team took an entire day to figure out why the engine wasn't cranking under the new fuel injection rules. It's a learning curve for everyone.

For now I'll just watch Hagan win like he did this weekend!

I like the way you think.

Why isn't Chryco/Fiat competitive .. same reason there is no MOPAR PERFORMANCE any longer . $$$$$$$$$$ Unless an aftermarket company starts investing money in Mopar smallblocks and bigblocks .. I cannot see the LA / B and RB engines being around much longer ... only new gen HEMIS... Sad ...

bob glidden had it hidden under his intake manifold, for a couple of yrs. he kept the manifold completely covered at all times, even when making a pass. look up the old pics .

I got a "pretty good stockpile of LA Parts".....should be enough to last me ....

ok..it was Billy....Bob did not make the six second club...

1. Kurt Johnson May 20, 1994 6.988 Englishtown, N.J.
2. Darrell Alderman Aug. 5, 1994 6.994 Seattle
3. Warren Johnson March 10, 1995 6.981 Houston
4. Bill Glidden March 12, 1995 6.999 Houston

So far, they aren't saving a dime on parts due to lowering the RPM. I still have some people I talk to who won't lie and they are telling me they haven't saved a dime.

What I hear is that if anything it costs them a ton. Matt Hagan was talking about rev limiters on funny cars and how hard they come on. Guys losing a cylinder or two on the top end because they bang up against the rev limiter so hard. I can't really see pro-stock being any different. You can't tell me that rev limiting an engine 1-2k rpm before its top end is good for it.

Not to mention having to redesign for the EFI, the new throttle body, hood changes, etc etc. Innovation costs money.

I like the way you think.

I'm a positive guy!

I've been involved with lots of racers/racing before. And a lot of teams will take a season or two off if they aren't competitive. There's no sense spending all that money hauling a car and crew around when you won't take any money home. That money could be better spent on being more competitive the next year. Especially given the HUGE changes made in PS. Fuel injection. The new throttle body. No hood scoops. It's A LOT of changes at once.

Hagan looked pretty competitive on the weekend in his Mopar....

So Kurt and Warren used NOS too?

Warren ran the first 200mph at VMP (I was there and the fans went nuts...)

A picture would be worth a 1000 words in this thread. My old engine builder was into altered's in the early and mid 90's. He had a pro-stock block that had been plumbed in the back of the block. He didn't say who and it was an eye opener....

It's been used a bunch I am sure. It would take a minimal shot to get an edge in PS.... Some were just never caught.... And other's had pink kangaroo's break into their shop and destroy equipment before they got caught lol...

The only team I heard that actually it caught was the aforementioned poncho team.

I've heard of all kinds of rumours. Guys used to pressurize things with nitrous, just to see if they could get it past tech.

Some of those things are:

Roll cages (yes, actually)
Fire extinguishers
Blocks
Fake batteries
C02 shifter bottles
Hidden in frame rails
Hidden containers, like in the oil pan or in the gas tank

I've even heard of guys having specially molded hoods that would hold nitrous.

One guy (can't remember who) even just stuffed a nitrous bottle in his race suit and made it through tech. Just to prove he could. Apparently his boss wasn't too pleased.

Of course there is also the Rusty Glidden confesion.

"Rusty Glidden. With his confession came a detailed description of how the nitrous system was secreted in his car. "The holding tank was the big weight bar in the back. The nitrous line started there, went over the axle housing right up to the front of the car & stopped at the motor plate, which was rifle-drilled. One of the supports holding the hood scoop on was rifle-drilled & went up thru the top of the hood scoop to a small stainless steel line that had 2 jets centered over the carbs. With .029 jets we made 120 ftlbs more torque at 7000 rpm & averaged 90 more horsepower. According to Bob Glidden , the nitrous system was detection proof. "you had to have a combination of things to activate it so a tech guy couldn't walk up , turn on the ignition & open the throttle. The shock switch had to be on, the computer switch on, the engine running & the throttle wide open. Trust me" Glidden concluded " Thats not fiction"

Now. How true any of that is is certainly up for debate. But I will say this how many hood scoop fires do you see without nitrous? How many did the dodge boys have back in the day? Broken distributor gear my ***.

There was nothing in the rule book that said NOS was illegal at the time...

That dodge hemi must have read these post....look like Allen and Roy got a dog in the hunt again...

Ok first of all, did the dodge boys us nos????? probably...........Was there any proof! no hooow. THERE FOR, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN! End of story.
I moved on long ago:soapbox::poke::D

Any naturally aspirated motor "the induction system" is what make it run.
Throw all your notes away, and start over with efi and no tunnel ram(as we know it)
"He who has the most R&D Money Wins!!!!!"
Allen and his Dad(and the rest of their crew) dispute that rule/statement, time and time again. compared to the rest, he has 0 $$$$$ but is Always in the hunt!
PLEaSE PUT aLL CHaIRS IN THEIR UPRIGHT POSITION aS rant over. :thankyou:

Asking what's up must have worked. Glad to see the old guy Roy do it!! I know when the Bronco's start losing I rag on them and they play better:):)

I know Allen wasn't sure if they were even going to run Pro Stock when the switch to EFI took place. He knew they wouldn't have the money like the GM folks, but I'm glad he stuck with it and hope they surprise a lot of folks this season.

Carl Foltz is the guy Allen thanked for help with the heads and intake manifold work.

After two qualify sessions....the dodge has been slowly creeping towards the top...

It's good to see Greg in the sixth spot.
And in my book when ever Allen ET's, better than Greg. IT is a GREAT DAY!!!!!
