Low Rider Mopars

-
cliff, i have a 76, big block auto cordoba. love that car. when i bought it the previous owner (whoms daughter i dated shortly after i bought the car...haha) had lowered it about 2 inches in the rear and loosened the torsion bars. i dont know about yours but mine has sway bars front and rear, that is the smoothest riding car ive ever owned, better than my lexus SC400. Having it lowered helped the look in my opinion, it lust wasnt all decked out like the usual "lowrider" Id say go for it, you probably wont regret it.

I think it looks great lowered. I have read where they bagged them,so I am researching on how they did it.

This thread,is so killer! If you don"t have coin for horsepower, lower it.And put some nice wheels on it!

I agree it's not a mopar and it does look great as a low rider.

I will hide in your closet if you try LOL

The factory nose high stance looks like crap and I am not going to raise the rear end, again Cordoba look great as a low rider. You are trying to be a purist and you are making changes to cars that did not come that way

Clif,I say Dare to be Different and go for it !!! Opinions are like azzholes, and everyone has one !!A lot of people harrass me for wasting my time and money on a slant 6 when I could be building a small block. You build what you want, and I'll build what I want,it's just that simple !!! Some people just don't know what Hot Rodding is all about !!

Yeah but that is one heck of a /6 you are building. I have got to figure out how to do this.

well the late 70s were a time of personal luxury ......and to me i agree with the above statement of each to his or her own ....but IMO your cordoba captures the true heritage of Chrysler of the times of the late 70s.
those low-riders and customs have no regard for the times and historical statement of these cars.

your doba as-is is a time machine to days long gone and will never come back .....and to me thats what ppl on avaerage like to see.....

at a car show i would rather take a pic with your original or period correct doba than a Ferrari or some pimp car

the point of restoring a car is rewind the hands of time and re-capture what was at one time .......but like everything else ...in a world where everything is destined to die and decay...true history can come at a big price and time is not always easy to rewind

People have been making low riders since the 50's rani. It's not about heritage, it's about making a car truly yours. That's the whole point I hot roding, but someone who just wants a car the way it came from the factory wouldn't know anything about that would they?

I was invited one day by a couple of my students to bring my '61 Dodge to a cruise on Fort Worth's North Side. I was smart enough to talk my wife into going, as she speaks, reads and writes mexican and I don't.

I was told to park my rig in a certain spot to be inspected. Fifteen minutes later I was apparently a new member. My favorite was when asked what kind of car it was, I told them it was a 61 Dodge Phoenix. One fellow responded "..Dodge made cars in 61????" These folks take their car hobby VERY SERIOUSLY. I liken it to baseball vs. softball: The basic premise is the same but the game is played differently. As the supply and quality of early 60's "chebbies" dry up, they're starting to snap up the very Mopars most of us musclecar people ignored: big c-bodies, Imperials, Polaras, as well as b-body 4-doors.

And if you've been finding car shows dull and boring I highly checking out a low rider show: The folks can flat out throw a party!!

Does anybody remember led sleds? Kustoms? The Autoramas?
In the fifties every manufacturer was swapping to 14" wheels to lower their production car's profile. Most early A bodies came stock with 13" wheels. Remember the "Forward Look" of Chrysler in '56? (or was it 55?) What about the Hudson Hornet? What about the wing cars, E bodies, or Chargers? They weren't "jacked up" so they can't be musclecars. Right?

My car life started in the 70s and lowriders were very much a part of my awareness and car culture. I've worked on quite a few since then. Would I build one for myself? Probably not. But to dismiss them and say they are not a part of our Heritage is both ignorant and insulting.

Cliff, do what makes you happy. You're the one that has to look out the window and be pleased by what you see. Let your imagination run.

I've bagged a few cars (and some weren't accidents :D ). It's not all that hard with basic systems. Don't go too big with the air lines and be double sure the bags don't rub on anything and you'll be fine.

Thanks Rev looks like a lot of research before I can start.

Well Put Rev,...I had a kid that worked for me in the early 80's when I lived in SoCal,...He was pres of the local lowride club, and He had a slammed Doba,...It was a sharp car,...Those kids put some serious wrench time in their rides and It showed,....

It's not always about hot roddin,... Some of us just like to cruz, Some of us believe everything should be a daily driver, and some of us have to be Factory Correct...Every person has the right to build a car that reflects their own taste and personality,...And I damn sure ain't gonna put anyone down who puts in the wrenchtime on ANY Mopar,...

I'm not a fan of them fancy paint jobs and pan scrubber suspensions, nor am I a fan of "It has to factory correct" either,.....I'm more of a Look lo but not be lo, muscular, stick to the road in the twisty's, primer black, chirp gears kinda guy...

Besides, the world would be a boring place if we all thought the same...

You go Cliff...
