Can't bring myself to part this rare 340 car out

-
Definitely in some cases, but I don't think there is anything worse for the present and future of the hobby, than the guy that scours all around and buys every damn AFFORDABLE broke down, no longer wanted, tore apart project, neglected, etc old Mopar and parts it out, so he can add to his ego boosting stash of parts. I'm talking about the guys with HUGE volumes of parts. He might sell some, but usually just wants everyone else to know what he has. I've seen many times where these guys threaten to scrap their stuff if somebody doesn't agree with their prices or doesn't come with a semi and a boatload of cash immediately, when they decide to allow their horde to be sold. To me that shows what they really think/feel about cars, that they are just ego feeders and cash cows. A lot of those cars could have been a teenagers first car. A father and son project. An old dreamer's nostalgia ride. I've been around. I've seen huge parts/ car stashes many times. I have a bunch of ****. But they difference is those guys did NOT go out and grab a bunch of cars to just cut up. True parts cars are a huge part of our hobby, of course. But it seems to me that actual, affordable cars are a pretty damn big part of it also. Maybe the OP will eventually part that Dart, but just reading his comments shows his integrity towards cars, unlike the stripper's/borders.
I love it. I've been wondering about a new nick name with that new picture.

However, If cars aren't parted out, where will we get the hard to find parts????? If it was a 69 M code 440 car, a 64 Sport Fury 426 wedge car, or a 70 hemi Cuda convertible I'd agree to NOT part it out. But from the description (and for some strange reason no pictures were posted), it doesn't sound like a rare car. If you want to restore it, that's GREAT. I spent more time and money restoring my 69 fastback than it will ever be worth. All I am saying is that parting out a car allows MANY other cars to live on.

You also have to think about the future. I have parted some cars that at the time were not worth fixing and many of the parts were not available at the time. A numbers matching 72 340 challenger is one of them. It was rusted bad but today it would be a restorable car. Another one im still kicking myself over is a 72 340 4 speed demon, black on black. Another rust bucket but today I wouldnt hesitate to start a restoration on it.
73+ A's used to be parts cars all day long but now im starting to see a lot of people fixing them up, myself included. Once I got used to the beak on my 73 sport I really love driving the car.
You dont have to do a rotiserie restoration to enjoy the car. I picked up a 71 duster that was smashed in the front. I chained the car to a tree and got the frame straight pulling on it with chains. Bolted on a spare front clip I had and it was on the road again. It drove great, looked decent and was a blast to drive.

That is def a loaded car. Good colors, too. Maybe even pilot car or factory show circuit car, as they tended to use heavy option cars. Just speculation on that, though.

Convertripple is the same as Space Duster, no?

I'd still like to see pics.

Did they still have canvas slide back sunroofs in 73?

Get you a 4 door with good frame rails while they're still cheap.....and take a body shop and welding class.....2 or 3 times if you have to...at a school that will let you work on your own car.

I would love to see some pictures too - for the sunroof registry. 1971-1972 A-bodies had the canvas slide back roof, but but for 1973 and on - a manual steel sunroof panel was installed. Someone help me out here - "Spaceduster" was used for Plymouth models, and "Convertriple" was used for Dodge models??

I’ve seen so many motorcycles and cars I would kill to have as projects parted out and cut up for various tiny or meaningless reasons it is sickening.

The rare times I’ve been able to buy “un-titleable” cars that were for parts only it took nothing but a day and a trip or two to the DMV to have a worthwhile vehicle.

And all the “where will we get parts” crowd aren’t paying attention to the phases of fad-builds, the pro-streets, rat rods, or billet crowds that come from time to time and dump parts at dirt cheap prices because they’re “worthless junk”

Speaking of “buy it or I’ll scrap it crowd” I’ve seen a 440 that didn’t sell on here get scrapped (guy admitted he made $20 or something off it instead of taking $200 from someone else) and countless other non mopar stories of the same variety (2nd gen Fbody GM, Rare ford parts (427 toploader combo) Z1 kawasaki, etc)
Between the scrappers and the relentless parting out, the hobby will be very different in the near future

I am with you I try not to part anything out unless it is so rusted or destroyed it is pointless. Don’t forget the crowd that is selling everything overseas for fast profit. I saved my one owner charger from going overseas from the widow of the original owner who liked me better than the guy from Australia that wanted it. I am all about preservation. I do have a 73 charger that I am parting that was stored nose down improperly for 30 years and rotted so badly it wasn’t worth saving but it’s parts will be recycled to the fullest extent possible.

It 1 of maybe 100 '73 340 4sp S/R cars... I think that might qualify as rare.

My research showed 1099 4 speed 73 340 DS cars but it has light package ac and rear defrost and buckets. Would need a donor body to fix and restore it. Had one lined up but someone got to it first. No fender tag or build sheet found for it yet.

every 340 car is worth restoring, and did you look on top of the glove box insert for the broadcast sheet or under the head liner?

Haven’t got that far yet only seats and carpet checked. Would need a roof and a back section off another car from the accident damage and all bolt on panels plus all the normal resto sheet metal. Rockers and floors are gone. Have some other projects ahead of this car.

Save it as labor of love, nothing else if you desire. Any car can be restored with enough $ and work by someone. Not very old mopar needs saving, and not every one needs parted out. Good comes from both ends.
Rare, desirable, etc etc etc... beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Me I can think of dozens of mopars I rather have while someone else would give their left nut for one of thus. ( sorry for the graphics).

parts cars are out there, believe this. you just have to look.

and your inbox is full. gold membership $40.00 a year and it will never happen again.

It's a '73.

No-one really values any chrome bumper Mopar built after 1972, and no-one ever will.

Strip it.

Surely you jest!!!!! lol ............ I have an F body in my collection, and the guys that love those and even the cordovas, diplomats, miradas etc, are some of the most salt of the earth Mopar people I know.

I bet Mr. Gorsky was just pulling our leg??????

Well even though the 68-71s are the most sought after many folks can’t afford them and ma Mopar still made plenty of cool cars after 72 and some like the space dusters and convertriples had options that were not available on the earlier models. I like earlier and later offerings and as I see more cars get cut up and some folks stock piling and sending cars overseas and to the crusher I just hope that my kids have a hobby to inherit if any of them choose to enjoy these cars like I have. To each his own....

driving/owning a 73 340 dart beats a K car and a K car beats a shivvvy.

This car has a title and it will still get stripped and scrapped. Due to the parts needed for another build. Sometimes you have to strip the bad ones to save the nice ones. It is the only way to afford to do a A-body and not get to much money invested. Its like buying parts in bulk. Use what you need and sell off the rest to get your parts for free.

^that car is way to good to part out. if you cant find real parts cars, you aint lookin. your just destroying a valuable car for your own selfish greedy means.

You can't be serious. I agree there are parts cars out there to be had to save as many as we can.

If it is not in your way and you don't need to scrap it...don't. If the value goes up or you find a donor car you may have something. If it is in your way sell it.
