Lost the front stop bolt and jam nut in my Hurst competition plus 4 speed mechanism while on the road ( only had 2nd and 4th to get home) Is it possible anything was damaged in the mech ? Or should I be ok just replacing it and readjusting?

Many Hurst shifters don't even have the stops. You are fine, replace and adjust. Rod

I think the rear stop limits how far forward the shifter mechanism goes forward. I would loosen up the rear stop to see if you get first and third.

I pulled the shifter mech out so I can match up the bolts at the hardware store. Going to be fun to adjust after its reinstalled... :BangHead:

As I recall these are 3/8 SAE bolts. Use grade 5 (3 point) at least

if you lost first n third, stop came loose and won't let shifter go into gear. I've takin stops out.

Put the shifter in nuetral and put a pin through the hole shown above the Hurst logo, this lines up the shifter. Put the trans in nuetral and spin the adjusters out on the rods until they just slide into the levers on the shifter. Pretty simple and yours shouldn't be off by too much unless you moved them.

Oh, that part I got. I was talking about adjusting the stops after it's installed. But thank you.

I think that it is pretty straight forward too. I always put the shifter in first gear and then run the stop bolt in until it barely touches and lock it down. The same for doing 2nd & 4th. The bolt is meant to take the brunt of the shift lever force so that the shift rods don't have to.

That is correct. Chrysler used Hurst shifters but the ONLY ones with stop bolts from the factory were 1964 and 65 B bodies.
The after market Hurst Competition Plus shifters had the stop bolts. I would keep them as there's less tendency to damage stuff when you're banging gears.

Also make sure your gearbox levers are in neutral. I would think you should still have 1st and 2nd unless something jammed or stuck in gearbox? Get your rear wheels off the ground and test the gears with the gearbox levers without the shifter.
