Thoughts on this 318 recipe

First time I've seen him without a cigarette in his hand. LOL

but I'd use the shorter voodoo with stock compression, gears, converter
1.6 rockers with the b3 kit but stock would be fine
what did your compression turn out to be?
BTW I like AVS carbs or TQ

I got up at 4: 30 this morning and made coffee. When my wife finally got up at eight-thirty I told her she had to microwave coffee because the coffee maker turned off 2 hours ago.
You got to get up before 4: 30 to fool me...

Getting up, making coffee and then moving to the couch and crapping out until 08:30 isn't going to cut it. You can't get up and then take a nap and call it getting up.

Did you see his parody video about his short time giving up the cancer sticks????

It's video gold. I sent that to a cousin that's trying to quit and its him down to a "T".

If you haven't seen it, look it up. It's hilarious.

According to the calculators it should static at 9.8. Disassembly/reassembley is about to begin
..probably next weekend. If the pistons are not .036 like I expect....I may back up 5 yards and punt.

Is there much difference in the Whiplash and Voodoo cams with similar specs? I see the Whiplash cams are 108-109° where Voodoo's are 112° with similar lift and duration.

This car had (has) an old SP2P and edelbrock 600 on it...none has touched it in years....this car came off the Navajo reservation...was dormant for years till I bought it from the kid who attempted to get it up and running before his father in law plainly stated to me.." this kid has no business owning a car like this"

The only thing close to in common is the Installed LSA..
Voodoo 702 specs...in my first post.

Theres a few degrees everywhere...and in what Harold Brookshire sees as being in the rightdirection...I trust his opinion...lol...he has some clout.

Agreed with the build being a very good combination. But the case being that your wanting to drop pretty serious dime for the Eddy heads, and it's propelling 2 tons of fun, I would be considering the 4 inch crank 390 option with more camshaft. May as well get some use out of that extra airflow.

course all that's been at the tip of my tongue as well but I'm pretty sure he started out the thread saying there's no way he's going to stroke it or get a big block or something like that?
Personally I would make whatever has now run decent and have a big block and a big block stroker kit in the works..
And put no more than spark plugs and oil changes at the 318...

I think the general idea is have a little budget fun with what you have kind of deal..
Yep, sounds like the op is planning on a 440 in the future. The Teen would be fun but why build 2? Just drive the Teen while you build the 440.

Cause it's so boring!
That should be your motivation to get real horsepower in there and not just spending money chasing a pipe dream..
There's nothing short of nitrous that's going to make that even seem like it has a bump in horsepower... With over 4000lbs...

It's a beginning....like I said I have been doing other stuff for 20 years....if I wanted to jump in with both feet I woulda bought an SRT or a built car. I'm easing back in...next motor might be that 440...might be a 392...hell...may even be a hellcrate....we shall see

Plus I'm teaching my GFs 13 and 11 year old the value of doing it with your own two hands....something more than hiding in their rooms with their devices.

I just like the instant starting, slightly wider plug gap and no tears exhaust that comes with it.
the tears originate in the tune. Sure the Multi-strike can get rid of it but so can setting the carb up right. And a heckuva lot cheaper. As little as 3 minutes with an improperly set carb on a medium sized cam to at most, an hour with a 292/108/

I applaud your zeal to work the 318.
As for me I wouldn't waste a nickle on it in that car, unless I would supercharge it, and even then I'd be shaking my head.

That chassis needs TORQUE, not horsepower. Hp is easy to get just rev it up.
There are only two ways to add torque; more cubes, or more cylinder pressure.
Sticking with a 318 precludes more cubes; leaving pressure.
And NA pressure with a 318 doesn't lead to enough torque by itself, to be particularly satisfying.
That just leaves jamming more air into it with supercharging. And I'm no fan of those side-winders. Leaving turbo's.

With turbo's you can leave behind; the hi-stall, the race-gears, the need for overdrive, the race-cam,the big fancy hi-flow heads, the $600 headers, the expensive intake, all that stuff. Poof!
And the best part is there's gotta be thousands and thousands of smogger-teens sitting in the corners of America's garages just waiting for you to call. Wait I see about 6 of em every time I walk into my shed.
But you just know I also have several 360s....... so guess which one I'd choose for that 4000 pound tank..... or even my 3650# Barracuda; I ain't getting any lighter, yaknow, lol; and neither is the car.
Whatever you decide,
Happy Wrenching.

Way to go Scott
Someone start a thread on Whiplash vs if they are interested
Hint It's ONE way to get a BIG intake lobe and still try and close the intake early
ONE tradeoff is lots of overlap, low vacuum- and all that
IMHO better off with a custom

And since apparently no one here as run one...as stated (according to Lunatis literature) the Voodoo makes good vacuum. Which dosent matter much to me (manual brakes...double pumper as required)...but we shall see once it's intalled and broke in. I'll post back....unless the pistons are deeper than .039....if they are...I'll jump off that bridge when I come to it.

Turbos? Who the hell even mentioned turbos?

Oh yeah...you did...are you off your 600 dollar header wearing turbo soap box yet?...I've know sometimes you just gotta get something out but Jesus...
Really dont have an interest in what's in your garage either.....

This is a fun little project with the kids...as stated elsewhere if anyone cares to follow the whole thread....throw a thousand bucks at the stock teen...see what it does...I've got a 440 waiting in the wings...and may just skip that and step up to a hellcrate...
