I picked up a Weiand Stealth 8022, and it has really bad port windows as shown in my images. My question is, is this indicative of bad ports all the way through or is it just needing the port windows to be gasket matched? I am curious if that is something that will affect the entire runner from those who have seen this before.

Should I just send it back? I ordered it through Jegs.

That thing is horrible. Line a gasket up and see if it can be matched. That being said it would be going back.

The question is, do you want to do extra work to get where you should have been from the get go?

How many times will you have to send back till you get one you can just bolt straight on? Shipping Back and forth is time and possibly $$$ if you pay for additional shipping, porting it is $$$ and time. Just lay a gasket on it, and open the windows up and then blend in as far as you can into the ports. Expect to do that on any new Weiand, Action+ included. Or if you truly want something ready to bolt on just scrounge up a little bit more coin and get an Air Gap and slap it on out of the box. Because you can with those, Weiands you can too but you’d be better off finishing up what they don’t. I’d be hitting it with the grinder

Jeez that thing looks horrible. Send the POS back and tell Jegs you want them to inspect what they replace it with before they ship it to you.

I wouldn’t even waste time putting a gasket on it when it’s obvious that it’s a seriously flawed casting. If this crap is what you can see, imagine what’s inside that you can’t.
It looks like the new guy in casting did this on his first day.

You paid good, hard-earned money for that thing. I don't expect perfection, but the Q.C. guy at Weiand should get fired if that's going out the door... Hopefully it's an exception, not the rule. It goes back.

I just got back from a hour long wait and two transfers on Jegs customer service line to get my return started and then dropped it off at a Fed Ex Facility.

Looks like I am going to get an Air Gap from Edelbrock instead.

I don't mind having port work done, but I don't want to question how bad the core shift is to get it where it should be flowing out of the box

You need to send that POS back and hawk eBay for a good vintage one.

The Air Gap is a bolt-on and go for most, others could find fault with it too.... but it’s a nice piece, the new Weiands need either cleaning up if using 318 heads, or opening up and tapering if using 340/360 heads, it’s just a matter of how much grinding you have to do to get it in shape. Crap shoot if the next one they sent would be any better. The Air Gap is well known to be a better intake ootb anyways. Nice port windows on this here AG ootb:

Weiand was bought-out by Holley, are they (Holley) on purpously trying to "substandard " a once upon great product?

I've seen Edel air-gaps with noodle straight port deviders too. I found the crosswind manifolds have a cleaner casting, but their plenum volume is a little smaller. Looks like those sand core molds are just worn out.

When I last raced the 8022 was the spec intake, I have 6 of these things, all were new and they are just plain crap. No grinding or porting per the rule book, I ended up grinding the worst ones and prayed to hell I never got d/q ed. People talk about the speedmaster s being crap, I've had 3 of them, they are jewels compared to the 8022!

My Stealth from 1996 looks a million times better than that. They have 318 port windows and need opened up to match 340/360 heads.

You should have set up a poll..... I'm betting not too many folks here will say "RUN IT" lol..... Send it back!!

Those are 2 good looking holes.

I installed a brand new Action Plus on my 360. Absolute garbage...
Machining is garbage. It never sat right and I could never get it to stop leaking coolant.
Did I mention Weiand is garbage?

Edelbrock Air Gap is a much better intake.

Talk about using worn out core forms/boxes. Jeez that is a mess.

I wouldn't expect a replacement weiand to be much better, i would return it for an edelbrock rpm too.
But everybody is capable of bad work. This is a late production edelbrock six pack manifold, the core shift and port windows are horrible.
