The p/s box on my 67 barracuda needs replaced. What all years A bodies were the same ?

When you say the same are you asking look like an OEM 67 gear box?

Or will be a functional replacement

i dont care what it looks like there is nothing original about my car lol a functional replacement i mean will a p/s box from a 73 duster work ? will it bolt up to my K frame & the lines from the p/s pump bolt up the same ?

IIRC 62-76 ish.

Check the mounting hole diameters. I put a '65 on my '71 and had to ream the mounting holes to a larger size for the '71 bolts. The high pressure hose fitting is the same, but the return line came off the control valve parallel to the box and not at a 45* angle like my '71. Return line fit no problem though.

I think 72 and down is what you need, because they changed the sector size in 73.....and your pitman arm won't bolt back up. I've never done just a box change, so I'm not 100% sure. I've always swapped the whole shebang and used spool mount k frame and everything that goes with it.

You can get your box rebuilt by Steer and Gear or Firm Feel or buy a new Borgeson box from Bergman Autocraft.

A used box is exactly that, used and likely worn out and leaking too.

up to 73 will be the same, that's when the sector shaft went to the bigger 1.22" (the pitman and associated linkage is also different).

while there are some outward differences, pretty much all of the car lines will bolt up-- there are small details on the supply/return line angles that can differ.

that being said measure what you have and confirm before buying. a lot can change in 58 years.

'62-72 A, B, and E body power steering gears will interchange. Sometimes the control valve and/or fittings will need to be swapped however.

I went to autozone & bought a rebuilt one. The only thing i had to do is oblong the hole for the bolt next to the frame. Ill send mine out to steer & gear to get rebuilt. What i found out is 70 & older have the smaller pitman arm shaft. 70 & newer have the larger shaft

My original April built 1971 has the smaller pitman arm.

Yep 73 was the transition year. You would need a 1&5/16" socket to suss' that pitman nut. Orientation of some ball and socket joints were flipped that year too. One has the cotter pins on the scalp while the other has the zerks on the scalp. I forget which is which.

Welcome back Ben!

Yup, and in the case of my 67 and other guys, you can swap 4 parts regardless of year if you get them all right. You can use A 73/ later pitman/ box/ idler/ center link (my 67 K was changed, no longer used the one year only idler) and so if you get a car where parts were manipulated you must be careful what you actually end // ended up with

Those 4 parts are independent of the year of the car, or other front end parts except for the oddball OEM 67 idler/ K member.

Likewise, you might find a guy with a 73/ later car who has 72/ earlier pitman/ box/ idler/ center line in one of those for some reason.
