The p/s box on my 67 barracuda needs replaced. What all years A bodies were the same ?
i dont care what it looks like there is nothing original about my car lol a functional replacement i mean will a p/s box from a 73 duster work ? will it bolt up to my K frame & the lines from the p/s pump bolt up the same ?When you say the same are you asking look like an OEM 67 gear box?
Or will be a functional replacement
My original April built 1971 has the smaller pitman arm.I went to autozone & bought a rebuilt one. The only thing i had to do is oblong the hole for the bolt next to the frame. Ill send mine out to steer & gear to get rebuilt. What i found out is 70 & older have the smaller pitman arm shaft. 70 & newer have the larger shaft
sorry i typed that wrong 1973 and up had the larger shaft can anyone confirm that ?My original April built 1971 has the smaller pitman arm.
Yep 73 was the transition year. You would need a 1&5/16" socket to suss' that pitman nut. Orientation of some ball and socket joints were flipped that year too. One has the cotter pins on the scalp while the other has the zerks on the scalp. I forget which is which.
Yup, and in the case of my 67 and other guys, you can swap 4 parts regardless of year if you get them all right. You can use A 73/ later pitman/ box/ idler/ center link (my 67 K was changed, no longer used the one year only idler) and so if you get a car where parts were manipulated you must be careful what you actually end // ended up withYep 73 was the transition year.
