Project`67 Dart GT 340 A500

I got the front glass in today. I see why they recommend two people for this job.
I did it by myself and I am wore out.
But end result is it went well. Just need to finish lock striping on sides and corner pieces.

OK windshield snow ball project is complete and I even wrestled with the super fun little corner trim pieces that tested my patience, I think I could rebuild a complete 8 3/4 differential in the time I spent on the trim. but it is all good I love it.

Junior is back out in the wild again. Yesterday was the first good run on it since the changes. On the freeway it ran very smooth with the new rubber.
And seeing out a nice crack free windshield was a treat.

So went to change my fuel filter and boy did it snow ball on me. The short rubber hose before filter converted itself into some sort of petrified rock hard plastic, I had a heck of a time chipping that off and get new one on the finally and test ran it. Then I noticed the pump leaking where outlet tube threads in, I cracked it.
I went to my stash and got out a NOS MP pump and installed it and decided to play with this new Holley 670 carburetor and read about fuel pressures so I better install a regulator. After regulator(new Holley} install I could only get 3psi no matter what, so called Holley they said your regulator is junk Daahhhh!!!. So I sent that back and bypassed regulator and psi went to 6. Not too shabby I thought so lets test drive it.
Junior ran perfect like it did before all this but at least now I some fresh part's on there with a new fuel filter and hose.

get a special meal for yourself and top the tank off with some yummy premium for the Dart...or whatever it prefers
 
So quick question:
I have a crack on my windshield on my duster from top to bottom almost at the halfway point, how was the replacement for you?
I have 0 experience with windshields of any sort and there are only 2 shops in my local area that know how to work with these types of windshields. All the other major shops were like "Huh, your windshield is sealed with rubber?"
I do have a special tool for the trim, I have experience taking off and installing the trim, but that's about it.
I have the new windshield and the new rubber gasket, just trying to decide if I want to do it myself or pay the $300 at that old-timer's shop who knows how to work on these.

If you want it not to leak find someone who has done this professionally for a long time. Since you have to take the windshield out to take the dash out, consider what else you might want to do there while you have the old window out: wiring issues are a snap when the dash is on a bench in the shop rather than upside down on your back in the car, resealing wiper pivots that notoriously leak in A-bodies. etc.

My best advice is to ask somebody else's advice honestly. I ( Mr. Stuborn)myself really like doing everything myself or with help from a buddy.
With the factory manual I just focus and
determine that I can do it.

Mine went fine and no leaks.

Str12 has some good advice on other tasks to consider while apart.

and while the dash is out paint the area of bulkhead behind the dash white. then if you ever have to lay upside down on your back in the future at least it'll be easier to see what you're doing. :thumbsup:

Oooo! I like this idea!! I am planning on finishing my AC install at some point.
@str12-340 Why I was thinking of doing it myself, because the 2 shops that are willing to do it do not do mobile services. I have to bring my car to their shop and they don't want me in there fiddling with the car while they work. Your idea is also pretty sound, as I do need to replace the seals.
So my last resort is pop out the old windshield do all the crap in and under the dash then borrow a car dolly and tow her into the shop.

Yes, I have been fortunate enough to find an old guy who is largely retired from decades in the glass business who does this work part time, and only works on old cars. The big glass companies hate to work on these windshields - they want to glue glass in with no gasket - as in, I believe, all newer cars. You might ask them if they have old employees who do this kind of work for restorations. Jimmy does all his work now by coming to where the car is being restored.

By the way, don't just paint the bulkhead gloss white, paint the entire inside of the dash frame while it is out!

Junior has been running great all summer, I have had drivers side exhaust manifold crack again so I brazed it up again on the car using engine heat to get temp right then shut it off and braze, but it failed I believe from the gases and exhaust contaminating weld. But mean while I have been hunting another manifold, and my buddy gets out more to swaps than I and he found a real nice one in Canada. It is the `71 style but should bolt up the same I read. It was painted already so mystery what they used but we will find out.

I am looking forward to putting it on.
