All the more reason to rip into it, less likely to have weird repairs laying underneath, hacked up wiring loom etc. Dont get sentimental you dont own a museum. My duster is a 74 so probably noit super desirable but everyone says keep the blue interior etc........ went in the bin a while ago as i want all black and have no care for standard lol

Unless it's rare do it. I went from this to this.
There are enough original Hemi ‘Cudas (probably even more that were actually built). I find no fault in a period correct Day 2 or 3 build with mostly vintage correct speed parts.

Although it's not a true H car, the previous owner completely went through my car. Paint, interior and driveline. I'm slowly making it into the car I want which is a Day 2 car. Bigger tires, bigger engine and upgraded suspension. All of the things that I would have done 45 years ago when I was still in HS (if I could have afforded it). I had a member tell me that he was disappointed in me because I sold the original 3 speed transmission. "But what about the next owner?!?!?"

You didn't "ruin" it, you personalized it! Anything can be put back to stock, enjoy it while you can.

CB radio
Keystones
Air shocks
Repaint in original EW1 (you had to look REAL hard to tell it wasn't the original paint)
It had a green bench interior, which turned off a lot of other potential buyers.
It was almost too nice to mess with.
...but it was a RL21 318 car with a green interior.
It now has-
Another fresh repaint in original EW1 White
Buckets seats and rear seat in OEM upholstery and white SSP upper door panels creating an interesting 2 tone interior that looks like it could have been factory
Buddy seat/armrest
Cassette recorder pod with modern DIN stereo
Tuff wheel
Road Runner hood
14x5.5 and 15x6.5 rallye wheels and RWL tires
Front bumper guard delete
I have the following if/when I decide I want them-
Machine gun exhaust tips

Getting back to the original subject. I agree with some posters, if it's a common car that they made hundreds of thousands of, then have at it. Chop it up all you'd like. But if it's a rare car like a Shelby then that just pisses me off. This is because EVERY car that gets customized, it's customized only for the person that customized it. 99% of any other people don't like how it was customized (ex. needs different carb, the color is ugly, the stereo is old, etc.). So then the end result is a piece of ****, after it goes through five owners and gets frankensteined with each owner. Then after it's been through all these owners and raped and pillaged, then the last stop is the junkyard. I'm sure everyone here can remember aggravating times of having to undo other peoples hack jobs, and it's not fun. And I'm sure people here can also remember awesome but hacked up cars in the junkyard that piss you off just looking at them in the junkyard....
Like not sleeping with your girlfriend or wife so things are better for the next guy...makes no sense.

My low mileage 71 Mr Norms GSS Demon is a day 2. 440 tunnel ram, wheels/tires, and hood.
Matching number motor was gone in 70's when dad blew it up racing. I built it the way I remember it and street machines.
I do have an original Mr Norms GSS 6 pack set up in case a 340 goes back in.

I bought the car in 1979 and like a MORON I started drag racing it. As it got quicker and faster I added a roll bar (just dumb) and it went downhill from there.
Then I bought a 64 Barracuda and sold that car in 1985. Just sickening.
Take the hood scoop off and the hood paint and add a 72 grill and thats what my car looked like.

I’ve also built, rebuilt for other people that have started with cars that were not as nice as they should have been in my opinion to make it in the shop.
After over forty years of this the thing I can’t emphasize enough is start with the best vehicle you can. Period, no exceptions!

Ehh , its been tested.. and yeah maybe 3 hp on a 145 hp slant.. but testing showed 13hp loss at 500 hp over say a 8.75 or 7.25 especially. Dana 60 eats less. Its all in the hypoid design

I have a 1968 Formula S Fastback 383 Automatic car. I hated the color so it was changed it to 1968 Mist Green Metallic. The interior was Deluxe Black, but having grown up in Florida, it will be changed to Deluxe White. The 10" original drum brakes were swapped to K-H disc brakes up front. The 383 is balanced, chambers cc'd and equalized, forged pistons, 915 closed chambered heads gasket matched and bowls blended, stainless steel valves, custom Racer Brown solid flat tappet cam, original intake, 750 cfm 1969 HP 440 AVS carb ( I also have a 72 HP 400 TQ intake and carb that might find it's way onto the 383), original air cleaner, factory exhaust manifolds, exhaust pipes and 69 Barracuda tail pipes (2 1/4 Diameter) with stainless tips. The console is not in the car as I replaced the original shifter with a B & M Quicksilver ratchet shifter back in the 70's. Retro Radio converted the original thumbwheel radio to AM/FM with a USB port, speakers are a vintage rebuilt pair of Infinity ICar speakers. Other than wheels, 15" SBP Rallyes with 71 centers, and tires the rest is pretty much as it left the factory. Do what you want.

This, right here, is exactly what I keep trying to tell people. Enjoy your car(s) the way YOU want to! Let the next idiot worry about making it "correct". Unless it's an extremely rare car, and is all there when you got it. You're nothing more than a caretaker, make the most of your time and have some fun, that's what they're meant for.

My dream paint would be similar.
Saved this pic years ago.
Although, as the clearcoat falls off our car and the paint fades even more, we like it more as is.
