Ummmmm....if you read the thread he answers that question

A compact mirror from a good looking womens purse can also prove to be helpful when trying to id a motor when it is installed in the engine bay.
If you know where to look...(it has been told several times in the thread) it is very easy.
If I may give some advise on the sell I would spend some time and make sure you know exactly what you have...
Many potential buyers stir clear of things when the seller does not have all the data needed in order to satisfy the needs of the buyer.
If you have to sell the car right away I would try an auction on ebay... you might get what you are asking for.
I know this has been going on for a while now so good luck and remember
blank white boxes of cereal would never sell but blank envelopes will always be opened first.

Good Luck again.

been nice if ya gave me a simple answer if ya knew it . . takes the same amount of key strokes . . . have a good one . .

lol ! good one! i need the money now, plus we are going to have another baby & already having a 2yr old little girl things get pretty expensive!

70Dartks . . . why are you selling??

it always amazes me when people ask; "why are you selling?"
...i say; "why are you asking?" because its really nobodys business.
maybe that doesn`t apply here as this is supposed to be a "friendly" site (but i`ve had occasions here where others weren`t so friendly!)
the point is; would you expect someone to say they`re selling because the cars a P.O.S. with insurmountable problems? that doesn`t exactly attract buyers! and even if they did say that one should realize things like that are relative. what is a huge problem for one person is a piece of cake for the next person.
theres nothing that scares me when it comes to old Mopars.
i have one that i just listed under both the parts section AND the cars for sale section. its a car i swore i wouldn`t sell!
oh yaa, its a real P.O.S. but thats not the point or why i`m selling it.
my reasons are simple, personal and not so unusual.
i broke up with my boyfriend and i moved out. i needed someplace to live so i quickly bought an old mobile home fixer upper and as i`m not made of money i realized i`d rather sleep in a house than in my car...i can`t afford to make both the way i`d like them so i chose to sell the car rather than just let it sit. if i come into some extra money i`ll buy another.
now is that really a buyers business or does it make a difference?
unfortunate that vultures hover awaiting fresh meat CHEAP!
and in truth most people sell because they want the money and usually also because they feel they need the money...so the buzzards pick!
here locally in the TampaBay Florida area there are some real
1@#$%^&!!!-holes, but i swear before i give them my car at scrap metal price i`ll drive it to the crusher myself and take pictures as the tires pop and they turn it into a pancake!!! (if they let me leave the tires on that is!)
yes, women like cars too and some of us know alot about them!

i think asking why a person is selling is smart thing to do...but i understand what you're saying too...

i think being an informed consumer makes lots of sense! therefore knowing what you`re buying is smart certainly! 1st by researching the relative market availability and value and then by asking questions of the seller about the condition or needs of the item in question. such as; does it burn oil, etc, but the reason i`m selling it? lets say i`m the nervous type and talking for me is just a kneejerk, nervous reaction and i go on and on and what i say makes no sense...are you gonna buy the car? why not? lets say i`m just the most tremendous fish storyteller you ever met. SO WHAT?
a car is a car and if you did your homework, the paperworks right and the value meets the price...what else do you care?
no, i don`t think its nessesarily smart at all to ask WHY ARE YOU SELLIN IT?
maybe having some little story makes you more comfortable?

i see what you're saying....and physicaly finding out what shape the car is in and asking questions is a no brainer for me....so as long as you're asking questions...you might as well ask why the person is selling the car....i could go on...but not sure what i would be prooving....

maybe you`d be better off asking them if they have had all their shots or if they have any terminal or communicable diseases or mental illness in the family??? (things that might put you at risk!)
HAAAAAY, maybe thats WHY they`re sellin it?
makes a great story!
yes, i havta sell it to afford my shots so i don`t get the family illness that Grandmas got! (LMAO)
would that make you buy it? would you exploit someone down on their luck and take advantage? (of course you would!)
yes, you could go on, but you would be proving nothing...

Valiant Kid,

I couldn't care less if someone asks me why I'm selling a car. In my opinion, it's a smart thing to do because it may provide the motivation for the sale, potentially you may have something they are looking for, lots of positives. If the seller says it's a personal issue... done deal, no further questions in that regard. In most every case it's a harmless question that may allow you to better know the seller.

I've made some great friends and contacts buying cars over the years that likely wouldn't have happened if it was a "put on the blinders and only buy the car" attitude/approach. There are others, grumpy piles of steaming dog doo, I bought from that I couldn't get away from fast enough. It's a feel thing where every person is a little different.

Back to letting this guys ad run so he can sell the car. Sorry for the hijack!

Wow...$6000 now. Show me a shot from underneath the car of the rearend, a shot (close-up) of the boss on the front of the motor with numbers/letters on it. If it's a 440 you will see those numbers. The letter in front of it designates the year of it.

What exhaust does it have?

Can you show an interior shot?

For $6000 you could not build this car. If you were smarter, you'd put this car on eBay and get around $10k+ for it with more pictures and a MUCH, MUCH better level of details.

...I would go there, first IMO.

i think you are right on the fact that you can't build that car for that much...But it all depends on the engine condition. if it is a 413, and not rebuilt, with a 4 brl carb slaped on top, then you could build it for that easily. and still have money left over. Put to most people, they wouldn't be able to build it for that.

I am pretty sure this has been slaped together quickly. I could be wrong. the engine doesn't look rebuilt, I don't think it has frame conectors, and the 1/4 pannels have lots of bondo. If they really put alot of money into it on the build...the 1/4's would have been done.

This is definatly not a $10,000 car on Ebay. car values have droped drematically. You can get a way nicer car for $10,000. No offence intended to this big block dart. I think it should sell soon at $6,000. But I could be wrong. All I know is if was local to me, I would have looked at it at $7500, and I am sure it would have been sold up here by now.

If you think it would be worth $10,000+ why don't you buy it for $6,000 pay $1000 to ship it to your house, then list it and sell it for $10k+...you could make a cool $2k-$5K in a week!

IMO

c`mon Adam,
you`re an administrator here...you gotta know that people who spend money to buy these cars want to know!
...then again the guy who owns this one doesn`t know...so what do i know? ya know?
...haha
but Adam do you know where to find a Maltese cross on certain 440`s...and do you know what it means? i do...ah! ha!

On the machined pad in front of the distributor. It means .010" under sized crankshaft.an X means the same thing

diamond means over sized lifters
LC = low compression
A = over sized bores

Do you know were a small block gets stamped with the cross ?

Also, If everyone that bought these cars knew everything about them then there wouldnt be anyone making a living restoring them.
