    318 low-rpm performance ........... for the NEWBE

Basically you are speaking of advancing the cam. You do have to watch piston to valve clearance as you advance the cam. "RV cams" had a bit more duration and lift and installed generally with no difficulty. Now add to that a .1 increase in rocker ratio, you will also benefit torque across the...

    273 Rocker Arms

I've been reading on here about guy's using 273 rocker arms. Are they a good choice for a budget rocker arm? Would they be a good choice since they are 50+ year's old? I can understand it if you already have them. But if a person doesn't have them what would be the next best choice for a rocker...

    Rocker arms upgrade?

Dove is still in biz? Also why not aluminum rocker on the street? I wouldn’t run needle bearing rockers myself ether. I like this. For what purpose? I have run Comp rockers for a long time now. I haven’t had a problem with them. I also have t taken apart the head to inspect if there is an...

Black Friday sales. Who’s buying what.

Here's a link to all the SB rockers that SM sells: https://www.speedmaster79.com/engines-components/camshafts-valvetrain/rocker-arms?enginemake=Chrysler&family=Mopar-Small-Block The first set, 1.5 with steel hold downs, is also sold by PRW. I have a set of these from SM, and besides needing to...

Is overspray on cylinder head ok?

That's a pretty aggressive cam. Be sure to check for spring bind and rocker clearance at the spring retainer. https://www.lunatipower.com/how-to-verify-valvetrain-geometry

    273HP, boat anchor or?

Yes, not your usual 273 thread. He had a 67 Barracuda with a stuck Commando 273 complete, but when he opened it up it had serious rust, corrosion, and a dropped exhaust valve head. A real shame. Not sure how you could have better quench than a zero deck hight with factory pistons a little...

Black Friday sales. Who’s buying what.

When I talked to Mike at B3 a while back, he mentioned that the PRW stainless rockers have a nicer roller axle than the SM stainless rockers. They may be made in the same factory, but according to him, there is a difference in axles. He also recommended soaking them in oil prior to installation...

    340......PUTTIN' ON THE ROCKERS QUESTIONS

that's the rule for stud mount rockers where you're adjusting at the pivot. with the 273 rockers adjusting at the pushrod you'll need more 'turns' than that. not twice as many due to the rocker ratio but i'd guess 3/4 to 1 1/4 turns:thumbsup: neil.

Any gains adding 1.6 rockers to stock 273?

It's not going to be a night and day difference. Before doing anything, I would make sure the rest of the motor is up to snuff with everything working the way it should. Compression and leakdown test, optimize the timing and advance curves. If it's a high mile engine, you may need to open it...

    408 LA build

You only need a good step or two bigger cam to hit your goals. If you know your valve to piston clearance, retainer to guide/seal clearance and spring specs, and rocker ratio you could see how much lobe lift you “could” fit, then call around. But just throwing out something, even with your...

Yes cause everyone follows the rules a 100%, depends how they check things ? Eg. I doubt they pull your cam a put it on Cam Analyzer.

You sure you can’t run a custom cam? I thought there was a lift rule and that was it.

Thanks, I'm going to write this down so I don't forget.

    Compression Ratio

Yeah, i had to think back many years. Same intake and carburetor as the 360, stock compression ratio 318 bottom end, mildly ported 360 heads, 273 adjustable rocker arms and a Comp Cams 270S solid flat tappet camshaft. Sounded like a big block when we opened the headers.

    Finding rocker

Good Sunday to ya! I have a 1965 273 Formula S. I’m trying to figure out what rockers were in stalled by the previous owner. Hydraulic lifters were installed in place of the solid lifters. My question is the markings on the rockers are 68RH and 61LH. Any idea who makes them and if they are stock...

Any gains adding 1.6 rockers to stock 273?

Yep, it happens easily. A simple question get's asked, opinions for or against get posted, and often things get out of hand. Your question was answered in the first couple posts.

Any gains adding 1.6 rockers to stock 273?

Lol... Just curious, exactly what question did I ask that was un-crew chief like? The only question I asked was about adding 1.6 rockers to a stock cam/heads. On paper, the lift gain would be similar to a "Mild" cam swap without having to pull the front of the motor off. I stated I have no...

    273 Rocker Arms

Think about this. When the W2 heads were released they used ductil iron rockers, not unlike the 273 rocker. Both are pretty much indestructible barring severe abuse.

No custom grind cams are allowed. Interior has to be as it left the factory and the spare tire and bumper Jack has to be in their correct location. Even the radio has to work. No cylinder head porting is allowed, stock size valve's are required, I don't think that a comp valve job is allowed...

    318 MAX fuel economy builds?

The rocker ratio changes the spring load seen at the lifter....., 250# OTN is 375# at the lifter w/a 1.5, 400# w/a 1.6, etc......

Any gains adding 1.6 rockers to stock 273?

Hey man, respect where it's due. That stuff looks truly legit. However it begs the question. If you're orchestrating this level of organization, why do you need advice on modifying a street motor? It's akin to a 5 star chef asking questions about how to make a PB&J sandwich. It's confusing is...

    318 MAX fuel economy builds?

I have to say that modern VVT timing engines also depend on all of the factors that you mention regarding oil. Once an engine gets to temp it is going to be very consistent just at the new cars are unless the oil degrades or the passages get clogged. The spring thig is real but it won't change...

421 Stroker with Trick Flow Heads/Intake Dyno - Redux

Another update: I decided to make a few additional changes before Summer. I ordered a new set of pistons from Ross which will bump my C/R to 12.25:1. I also had Bullet regrind the latest cam to increase the duration and lift. Only cost $200.00 to have it reground so it was a no-brainer. New...
