    Find someone with a leak down tester and start there. Or perhaps start the car up and start unhooking plug wires one at a time to see if the sound of the motor changes.

    You can make all the horsepower you want, but if you can't get the car to hook you are lost. Look at better shocks ( adjustable) and either caltracks or at least an adjustable pinion snubber. Get the car to leave and you might be VERY surprised. Get the suspension working and THEN look at more...

    Opinions on a 340

    I can tell you that high compression is fun but a royal pain in the ***!! My 340 has 13 to 1 pistons and I love put also hate them. The car is a BLAST to drive but knocks like a bastard unless I run race fuel. Run lower compression and enjoy your pump gas car.

    Valve Cover Gasket Sealing Issue

    I was told to glue two cork gaskets together to stop leaks. According to the member that told me it solved his leaking valve cover problem. I am willing to give this a try to see if it works.

    They ran the motor in a dragster, but I do not know what et it ran. The motor is still sitting in the engine builders shop. I thought about buying it, but it is bored out 60 over so I am not sure if it would make a good street motor. I worry that it would not cool properly.

    Way back in the day a local engine builder built one of these motors and used chevy pistons to get the right deck height.

    It was like that when I bought it. If I was doing it myself I would NEVER put those pistons in!!

    I was talking to a guy this weekend that uses a 50/50 mixture of Methol Hydrate and water and says that it works really well in a methanol injection system.

    have tried that , but the car wouldn't run worth a crap. It is at 34 deg all the time. I tried dropping the timing and hooking up the advance, but that did NOT work!!

    I just checked my oil level and it hardly moved after 140 miles or so. So I am presuming that most of the smoke I am seeing is from knock which is NOT good. I am really confused at this point and am looking at putting a water injection system to control knock. Any thoughts?

    Had the motor out when I bought it and the A/C was a pain , but it worked. Our premium fuel sucks ***!! I have used race fuel, but at $15.00 a US gallon that gets really expensive quickly. As to what purple shaft I have I do not know as it was in the motor when I bought the car.

    We went for a 70 mile drive yesterday to a carshow and a recurring problem became MUCH worse! With our crappy fuel my 13:1 340 did not like the drive at all!!!! I guess it is time to take it out and make it more street friendly. The problem with this is that I LOVE the way it sounds and works...

    oil pressure goes from 65 psi to 30

    You may need to add an accumulator to insure that you don't lose pressure at the top end.

    My 340 does the same time if it sits for too long. One lifter gets load and stops ticking after a couple of blocks of driving!
