64 Dart , any 8 3/4 rear differentials drop in no mods?

you'll also need 8 3/4 shock plates and u bolts

Anyone like the Hurst Pro Matic 2 shifter?

I've been running one for several years. I Remember when I took it in to get tires mounted and the young guy sat in there for 2 minutes and got back out. I just laughed and gave him a quick tutorial on how to get it to move:D I have had not one problem with mine and I like the fact that it has...

1972 dart 318 want to make the tires spin

something doesn't sound right. 325hp should be able to break the tire loose. I'm assuming your 7 1/4 is not a suregrip.

    lokar kick down adjustment

I may be wrong but, I don't think the cable is for adjusting shift points. It is just for kickdown when you need it. I know the shift kits may help. I'm not a tranny guy so others may know the right way to adjust shift points.

    vibration problem

I have to chime in and not trying to hijack the thread. Not really mopar related either. I do have a vibration problem though. It is usually late at night after the wife joins me in bed. It sounds like a 8,000 rpm vibration and there is humming involved too. It seems to be coming from the...

    INTENSE VIBRATION 727 Duster!

I don't know for sure but the listing for your torque converter says "balanced". I always thought balanced meant weighted? I run a bm flexplate aslo but with a neutral balanced converter. Meaning no weights. If your converter has weights welded on and your flexplate "is" a scalloped one then it...

    Moser vs Strange

I'm running mosier axles with green bearings in my 8 3/4. Easy to install, nice looking axles, haven't broke em yet. I'm only pushing about 375hp with 3.23 gears so they really haven't been subjected to alot of abuse..

    8 3/4 -- What gears should I run?

What type of driving do you do most? If your not on the freeway doing 70+ alot I would stick with the 3.55 ratio. Pretty descent torque with the right setup and not entirely non highway friendly.

    what is this switch for?

Just like he said, called a nuetral safety switch. Also for reverse lights. What tranny was in the car before? If it was an auto it should have a harness for the switch. Here is a link for wiring diagrams by year. Hope it helps. http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=24

    At a loss....

Only two speed I know of is a powerglide. Do you have pics or numbers off the tranny? that would help alot. Even a pic of the trans pan would help.

    In a pickle..

I'm running a VDO electronic in my 63 dart and I believe they are programmable in mph or km. You should check them out. Very nice unit and easy to program.

    Trouble mating 727 to a 440 - HELP ;)

My first priority would be getting the numbers off the the tranny as was mentioned. It always helps when you know for sure what your tryng to mate. It would be a a bummer if your problems where just mix matched parts. Good luck with your issue and most important......don't force it.

    Can it be done?

This is a complete transmission swap from a 904 or 727 to a500 or a518. They are selling the kit to make the newer a500 or a518 work right in a non computer car. I don't think there is any way to turn a 904 or 727 into overdrive witha few simple steps. If there was we would all be driving around...

transmission wont start in park and other stuff

I would guess your linkage is out of adjustment by the symptoms. Not really a hard job once you get it in the air.

    904 to 999

Not interested in a overdrive swap. I don't want to cut up my tunnel. It's a 63 dart with a 360 pre magnum roller.

    904 to 999

Is it worth the effort to swap from a 904 to a 999. I saw a a999 on craigslist for 150 and needs rebuilt and comes with converter. Pics look good though.

    Help!!!! Is This Good Deal?

That seems like a good deal for a complete rear. 8 1/4 should hold up well behind your engine. You will need u-bolts and I believe shock plates are different also. I'm thinking that 8 1/4 and 8 3/4 share the same size plates but not 100% on that.

    bent flex plate question

I would take out the bent flexplate and get a good non-bent one. Then you would know it's right and go from there. Flexplates are cheap and can be found used easily.

What do you guys think 3.58 posi

Not for a "741" case....maybe a 489. lionheart00007 What do you have in it now? If it's an 8 1/4 you could just put a posi unit and upgraded axles for alot less.

    Auto tranny to Manual

A one legged man would trade even up. Just keep checking the leg amputee forum:)
  21. 63dartman

    Yoke Choice

Why do you ask? I would go with the 7290 and a driveshaft loop. If you break the 7290 and your running a 904 I would guess the 904 would also be in pieces scattered throughout the car. You need to protect yourself first then the car.

Transmition lines, how do i make them?

I believe you can get the line at NAPA along with the correct fittings. I just bought a tubing bender and a double flairing tool and went at it. I just measured and bent where I needed to. The lines came out pretty good and no leaks going on 4 yrs. It is very tight work but can be done with...

    Whats the difference?

10417 - B&M Tork Master Converters Details Tork Master 2400 Has 10" bolt circle When used with an externally balanced engine, B&M Chrysler converters require a B&M flexplate Does not fit lock-up converter or clutch converter models 360 is external balance. From this info I would say...

    Whats the difference?

without knowing what flexplate is on the 360 I can't answer your question. Did the 360 have a 727 or a 904 behind it. If it was a 727 and you can verify you have the correct flexplate on the 360 then you could use that converter as long as it's for a 360 with a 727.
  25. 63dartman

    Whats the difference?

You should be ok just swapping to the b&m flexplate for a 360.. I believe the 318 converters are neutral balanced.
  26. 63dartman

    Whats the difference?

The smallblock 727 will bolt up to all three. Same bolt pattern. There are differences in the flexplates, converters, and balancing requirements.

    8.75 Yoke Question

I just crawled under my car and took the same measurement as you have posted and they are identical. I am running a 8 3/4 489 posi with a 7260 yoke and drive shaft. I would guess you need the 7260/7290 conversion joint. Are you sure you got the right one the first time?

    318/904 question

thanks ABODYJOE, I guess my bottom end noise is not converter related. I think I have a crank bearing going south:( I tried to cut corners on balancing and I think it just bit me in the A$$. Lesson learned:)

    318/904 question

bump....I'm thinking it's nuetral but want to make sure.
