    Torsion bar upgrade

I agree with 'superdart,' about the torsion bar size. Too stiff will make it jittery over pavement imperfections (larger rims w/performance rubber and high pressure gas shocks will compound this) and the ride will suffer somewhat. My alignment/frame shop connection told me that w/the old Mopars...

    K-Member question

There you go...skip the '67 one all together! "J-U-N-K," in MHO; I am doing a '73-up K member in my Valiant like Dartnut has w/the 12" rotors off a St.Regis cop car and the pin calipers from a '75 Charger (aka "Cordoba"). Bang for the buck that is really hard to beat.

    Air shocks?

Moparsons, I'd look to either re-arc the springs or get new ones. Just MHO.

What will these upper control arms fit?

Crackedback-that is only if it has legible grease pencil marks and date codes so they can be "Certified Gold" at the Mopar Nats. Give the man a break in these tough economic times, now that Hemi 'Cudas aren't going for $1,000,000+.

    K-Member question

'67 slant six cars use a one-year old bayonet style idler arm. Very expensive for what it isn't (POS); I believe the V-8 one is the same '67-'72. It is a bolt-through style. Check part numbers just to make sure

    Torsion Bars 892-893 (L&R)

892/893 are the "340" bars, I've cleaned and re-sold a few pairs. Find 'em under 273-318 cars with A/C, the occassional slant mobile with A/C or the odd HD suspension cars. 340 cars? Haven't seen one in a 'yard in years.

    Strut rod bushings?

Spend the money and buy the Moog "Improved Design" strut rod bushings. Remember, put the washers on so the cupped side is OUT. Very common to see them turned around w/the cupped surface inwards. Experience tells us this is how the washers go, but the instructions say otherwise-I'm guilty of...

    Torsion bar upgrade

If you have any yards w/old A-bodies, the best candidates are ones with V-8's and A/C. The ends of the bars will have 3 numbers. You want to see 892 and 893, those are the fabled "340" torsion bars. Slant cars with A/C sometimes have the bars as well, and good luck finding a 340 car sitting in a...

    where can i get this

You can also get it through his company "ACME Mail Order." Their address is: PO Box 282612; San Francisco, CA 94128-2616. They ask $30 and don't come w/the legal problems that Layson's is having. Look on the web by search "ACME mail order mopar."

You can use a factory one, but it should be a '73-'76 disc A-body one.

    Collapsible steering column question

It can't be from a truck because columns are application specific. They may have used a different design tactic in regards to the column collapse, but it was NHTSA mandated by the mid-'60s'.

    Front End Problems

They swaybar tabs were probably moved inboard to try and make the '72-down K-member and swaybar work w/'73-up discs. Or they just swapped the spindle/disc/upper control arm onto the early lower control arms. Same problem will occur- the caliper smacks into the tabs and/or bar. The least...

    What shocks are you using?

JamesDart- KYB's are licensed copies of Bilstein's design. The only negatives I ever experienced is a little rusting on the exterior of the tubes. On my minivan w/ 275K + on the odometer. So the set on my Valiant got a nice coat of Krylon "Corsica Blue," which will help w/the econo/sleeper vibe...

    Schumacher Torque Strap

Micheal Schumacher hasn't ever put out junk- he is a nice guy, too. None of the old time Mopar guys around here have a bad word for him and they've known him for years (I met him about 12-13 years ago).

How do subframe connectors help handling?

Also, if you take a jack/lug wrench assembly from the 1st-gen minivan (comes w/a compact bracket, too) and weld an appropriately sized dowel on each end of the subframe connector, you now have a much more stable way to jack the car up that won't tweak your bumpers. And the bracket that everything...

    McQuay-Norris suspension kit from ADEALS

Harris Bushing makes most all suspension parts for the various manufacturers- the difference is in the spec's that are called for. Moog is top notch; my buddy's parts store carries Moog in their 'private label' box, little bit cheaper (not too much). Anything marked "Improved design" or "Problem...

Good source for front end kit for '70 dart?

Years ago I did a stock rebuild on a granny '67 Dart front end using a PST kit. The idler arm went tits up within a few months, called PST to warranty it. They were absolute d*cks-the slant 6 suspension in '67 had the bayonnet-style, 1-year only design (which I paid the extra charge for). They...

    Coilovers???

Talk to a good alignment/frame shop; I wouldn't do it w/o a top-rated, high dollar shop engineering building something very stout and standing behind the product. Too many grey areas

Schumacher's buddy Jon Stearns use to make 'em (the slip on tach brackets, engine swap kits, torque straps, etc.). All the old Mopar guys in Seattle know him and none have a bad word to say about the man.

    Torsion Bar Install

The color stripe denotes the bar thickness; "340" bars had a blue stripe, 0.89" thick, P/N 892(R bar) and 893(L bar). I believe the slant 6 bars were white,0.87" thick, P/N 890 and...but they hit the recycle bin so fast it wasn't funny!

Find Tom Condran's book "Performance Handling for Classic Mopars." Seperates the 'real' from the 'get real.' Helluva good guy, too. Sagging 67 needs your input

Either have 'em re-arched or buy fresh springs. Grab Tom Condran's book "Performance Handling For Classic Mopars" and talk to a good alignment guy who knows old Chrysler. There is never enough time or money to do it right, but there is always more time and money to do it again!

    73' front suspention on a 70'?

If it has the swaybar, be sure to use the '73-up LCAs' w/the spool mounts. Do NOT mix the '67-'72 in w/the '73-'76- it won't work due to the later bar being more narrow to accommodate for the later calipers. The LCA swaybar tabs are moved in, as well as the K-member being notched for this,too...

340 swap-small block k frame or motor mounts?

If you use the '73-up disc and use or want to use the sway bar...better get a '73-up K. The calipers will slap into ends of the sway bar

    76 A Body Sway Bars

'67-up k-members are alot different than the earlier ones, so hopefully you aren't going to try fitting the '73-up one on your '65. '66-down is the first gen, '67-'72 is the second, and '73-'76 is the third and final generation. You can adapt the '73-'76 into the '67-'72, but the whole k-member...
