Early trans, don't have my books handy. I guess I do, 1965 B&C body should be cable shift. Not sure you got all the 10,000 day and quantity built correct...
The stamped numbers 2892072 is a 1968 904 318 2-bbl is the part number 2511 is the date it was built and 3584 is the number produced. 2511 is June 12, 1968. You have an extra 7 at the end of the part number...
I did that with two rebuilt trans, put a piece of plywood down and tipped them up. 5 years later I went to use them, input shaft and front of pump were rusty and seal was wasted. I would not do it that way again...
You should not have to drill right there, this has been done for decades and whatever kit you got should have told you where to drill.
You should just get a hold of Dr. Diff, he knows all! DoctorDiff Drivetrain Components
99% sure it would have come with an 8-3/4. I had a 67 Dart GT convertible with a 273 4-bbl automatic and came with a factory 8-3/4. Usually if it had a 4-speed it would have one, but having said that, it is Chrysler after all...
I ran a dual pattern 7260 and 7290 on my 69 Dart Swinger race car that ran in the 12's with no issues. I could change out rear chunks no matter what yoke they had...
Well there is only one length of driveshaft for a 70 Dart Swinger 340 because they all had an 8-3/4 rear with the 727 trans, no other trans except 3 or 4-speed was available. The length c/c is 47.99" and 3.25" diameter...
So axles, a good gear, and a sure grip are free? Go ahead and buy a C-Body rear, axles cut down or buy new, new ends, new bearings, weld it together, buy the parts you need to finish it, then post a price. I guess your labor is free too...
Need pics, I am interested in the 372, any cracks? They are prone to cracking, the simple hammer peen test will tell you immediately. Also, do you have the inspection cover?
8-3/4's in A-Body's were used from 66-72, after that they went to the 8-1/4. No Dana's were ever used in an A-Body except the 68 Hemi Dart and Barracuda which would have a B-Body Dana on 4-speed cars only. There were axle codes on 66-68 A-body's but not from 69-72. The A-Body 8-3/4 are all small...
Yes, but DO NOT put it on a concrete floor! I did that with two recently rebuilt ones and the input shafts and pump covers rusted badly in short order! Minimum put them on a wooden pallet or way off the floor...
