My .02, I have had better luck using the Ultra Black RTV on the intake, its designed to seal oil better than the red. I save the red for the header gaskets.

It was done by a shop in Lansing Illinois back in the 80's, I don't recall the name.

Brian those numbers are awesome, but you forgot to talk about the goods. What heads, intake, pistons, carb size. Is that from a R or LA block ?

How much run time on the motor? Did you try a leak down test? Do you know the compression ratio? 75 psi should be enough to fire gas, the thing I see that stands out is the pressure difference between holes.

I use race gas VP MotorSport 105L due to running 150 shot of nitrous. The cam is Comp cams Magnum 20-244-4 Hydraulic.

I have that piston in my 340 and get about 230 psi.

If you pull the valve cover you may be able to see the head gasket pushed into the motor. Look between the oil return holes where the block and head meet. Its a narrow part of the head gasket, and its where I had problems. I would also check the valves as stated. Good luck

Looks like the alt. is loose in the video. Its doing the same as mine when I pushed the head gasket into the motor. A compression and leak down test should be high on the list of whats next.

I see you put the new header gaskets in but are the headers hitting the oil pan and not seating on the head? Did you see any dark spots on the old gaskets? You can try to slide a feeler gauge from the bottom and see if it passes the gasket into the header. Or use a small mirror and put under the...

I have used VHT and Dupli-color high heat yellow rattle can found at Auto-Zone.

I know this is wayyyyyy outside the box but have you checked the header gaskets. I have heard knocking noise come from leaking header gaskets.

I have R/R both ways from the top and from the bottom. I like to drop the car on the motor and trans. When I did a top drop with the motor I used the 3/8" holes in the front and rear face of the heads and a chain. I would use the carb plate for a top drop if I didn't have a six pack.

Update: Over one month with copper gaskets and two trips to the track, 7 nitrous runs, no leaks or blown gaskets. Its nice to return from the track and not have a problem. Now on to getting a better 60' time. Thanks for all the help.

UPDATE: I switched to SCE copper gaskets, cleaned all services with brake cleaner, used a thin film of black RTV around all port holes. I put a new o-ring wire in the problem cyl. The problem head was shaved in the mill, (NO STONES). I also crossed the heads so the old #2 cyl is now on #7 cyl...

The pistons look good, the spark plugs are Autolite #403 and are like new. the only difference is the exhaust valves on the front cylinders have a lighter color on them like their running leaner than the rear.
