383 intake / carb help for my 73 Dart

Thanks all for your input. Again, I want my Dart to be almost as reliable as a daily driver, to the point I can hop in and go anywhere without issues. Not looking for performance enhancements as much as reliability without a lot of maintenance issues or wondering if it will start at the local...

383 intake / carb help for my 73 Dart

Hey guys . . . . I have a 70 383 4 bbl in my 73 Dart. It's just a cruiser. The guy I bought it from didn't know anything about it but that it was a "383 with a mild cam". Haven't opened it up and really don't plan on it yet. I have found it is a 1970 383, has a Holley 1850-4 4160 carb, a...

    Can't read timing marks on a 383

Trying to set timing on my 70 383. My timing marks show a hole far right, and a few lines to the left. I can't get close enough to read what the lines represent. Looking through 63 year old eyes doesn't help much either. Anyone have a closeup pic of this so I can set my timing? Thanks for...

    Can't find VIN# on engine

Yes I checked the passenger side, there are no numbers there. There is no ID pad I can find. I may not be looking in the right area. Zhandfull stated 68's have it near the bellhousing at 11 o'clock . . I haven't looked yet. Top pad by the drivers head has an "F" which is 1970. That is there...

    Can't find VIN# on engine

The machined pad above the pan rail you speak of and I read about in the manual is on right side (passengers) correct?? I scrapped paint off the length of the block at the pan rail. I didn't find a machined area or stamped numbers . . . .

    Can't find VIN# on engine

I've been trying to find the VIN # on my 383. I look in my 73 manual and it says it's on the right side left of the motor mount about mid engine. I can't find anything. Then I realized the motor was made 11/68, was it in different location in 1968?? Thanks, Rog

    383 exhaust manifolds

After some researching, I found that the LH 3751068 is a HP 73-4 B Body maniflold. The RH 3751074 though is a LP E Body manifold. I'm thinking that since I have to pull the LP 3751074 off anyway, I might as go with a better match. The RH 3751071, which I believe is the match, is a 73-4 B Body...

    383 exhaust manifolds

Besides the guys who are lucky enough to have those stock 2863900 / 2846729 manifolds, what are you using that worked well? I have 3751074 / 3751068 manifolds and asking for your help and opinions if there is something that works better. I have a 73 Swinger, auto trans, manual brakes. Also, to...

    383 oil filter

When I got my Dart it had a Fram PH8A filter on the 383. It is darn near the radiator shroud, and looks to be a bugger to get off. I know they make a 1/2" shorter filter (not the half sized can). Anyone use one? Let me know what brand and number you use. WIX NAPA? Also, is there a filter...

    Exhaust options?

Jim (Lusk), I have the same setup . . . previous owner has 3751068 and 3751074 manifolds (400?) installed (no exhaust) on my 383. Looks like he "modified" the steering to make them fit. My question is do you think these manifolds are best manifolds for my application? It would be helpful to...
