some of the 318 dodge trucks came with a 4 barrel, mine was one of them. put a tune-up on his truck and run it thru inspection.

check and see if there are clamps over on the frame to snap the lines in.

try changing the plug and wire. if you are using the cheap radio suppression wires they sometimes burn out inside. spiral core is the best suppression type wire.

did you check them 6 months ago when it was brand new?

install the key and advance it. fact if you can get a 4 degree key use it.

like said they have spot on timing that will never ever change but if you want to you can always sell it and install a timing chain that will stretch as soon as the motor is fired up and will get worse the longer you use it. it's your money so go ahead and sell the gear drive and buy some crappy...

I have both the cat gear drive and damper on my tow truck 318 for four years now and never had any problems.

put the lifter on the heel of the cam(side opposite the nose)adjust rocker until you can spin pushrod between two fingers very easy(clearance play). tighten adjuster while spinning pushrod until the is little resistance to spinning it. now adjust 1/4-1/2 turn tighter and lock nut.

I think you screwed up when you loosen them up. the gasket is no longer compressed.

your budget to get a 383 in your hotrdod will be about 3-4 times that of going to a 360 or rebuilding your 340.

welcome here. banana grove the oiling holes on the shafts with a hand file, die grinder or cutting wheel then lightly sand the edges of the grove. also over at bigblockdarts there is some good info on all to do full time oiling to the rockers.

shouldn't be a problem with a composite gasket but i would suggest using copper coat on a steel shim or copper casket.

maybe your machinist didn't fellow the piston to wall spec for the hyper piston which is alot less then cast or forged. the wall finish does look a bit rough but that maybe just the way it looks in the pic.

probably never had a top ring to begin with.

if you have the old one take it to your friendly neighborhood autoparts store, if not measure the hole diameter head to the same place. it's a freeze plug/core plug etc.

try this polish the crank snout with fine wet or dry paper or/and a dremel tool and hone the damper like the correct size brake hone or some engine hone which will polish it at the same time. also if there is any paint inside it will need to be removed.

see if it has the flat pad just to the right of the distributor, that will tell you if it's a "B" or "RB" and should have the cubic inch on it if it's a "RB".

you might consider heading to the book store and see if you can find one on tuning holleys.

somewhere along the line mpoar changed to a lower pulley that had one odd holem just line them up, find out which one it is and drill a new hole.

did you include the thickness of the head gasket when figuring compression?

get new gas. the stations are not as trueful as they should be with whats in thier pumps. bp is the worst.

try a heavier weight oil

i got a great nos sfi off e-bay for my 318 in the tow truck.

when you have a valve job done it sinks the valve into the head and you lose a bit of flow. that being said installing 2.02's in the 1.88 head will be like have a brand new head as for as flow goes. for 180 bucks you might be able to buy the valves and get the valve job done for a tad more.

the bodies are pretty much the same.
