    good advice, this is a moper website the lifters are in a 340 with comp cam hydraulic cam. i never heard of problems with solid lifters seizing.? thanks every body, i like the oil filter check.

    This is a good thread. So i can use my 1/2 filled block without a problem. just buy a 8 quart pan and oil cooler. whats a good pan for an a body.

    I just tore down a 1/2 filed hard blocked 340 with 20000. miles and a spun rod and scufed bearings, the cooling sistem was 3core radiator all the shrouds and dames in place. on the hiway the oil preshure would go just below the 10psi to 1000 rpm numbers. had stock pan. you could not cruzse above...

    It's about Headers

    if you have power steering with dougs you will have to change the gear box coupler. the top porshion of the coupler hit the header on mine.You cant even see these when you look under the car.

    I would verify that the gauge is working properly. U could use air to check it.

    Keep the vacuum advance e out of the circuit don't hook it up till u get all the bugs out.it is not your problem. its probably carb or vacuum leek. i had the same problem and it was the carburetor.

    I went with edelbrock full syncetick10-40 with zink because i didnt like the way the pressure drop d to just under 10 psi per 1k rpms in hot weather. now it stays over 10. got the oil at sumit

    I'm in the middle of assembling a 340 with Brians rhs indy heads ,comp xe275hl ,stock 10-1, airgap and some bodies headers with a 4spd. Brian said at least 430hp. Boy i cant wait to dump the clutch

    peanut gallery hear. if you have stock dome pistons sticking up out of the block you will have to use open chameber heads like js or thickhead gaskets. you have to do the math before you buy stuff.

    rear main oil leek advice

    well just call me bone head. I jacked it up and crawled under it and found the path from the valve cover above the starter. it was hardly visible from above. (loose bolt). I guess its to easy for me to think of bad things.Needles to say i'm very happy that's all it was. Thanks for the replies...

    thanks lhearold that makes sense. I was thinking the only way for it to be the seal was the bearing to go first.
