    Big Valve X Heads on Low Comp 72 340

    the 587 head does flow better, over the 915 head, best to install sst one piece valves, that helps flow and velocity. in stock, low comp 340 are as fast as, the higher comp 340's. just food for thought, i've found the 1.88 valve has more velocity over 2.02.

    273 Rods work in a 360?

    yes, but 273 rod has a bushing in it, 360 uses a pressed pin. piston needs lock ring grooves cut in pin bores, unless you're using after market, pistons, some come with lock grooves. just food for thought

    i assume , when you degreed it, dots were at 12 and 12?? when they are together, you're on # 6 tdc. dots at 12 and 12 is # 1 tdc, then cam will degree correctly.

    Spark plug gaps

    in my stocker, with msd 7al, run .060 gaps, also, use a standard length plug, not a extended tip plugs, also can run more timing , this is a 72 340. at track , opened up gaps from .045 to .060 ran .05 faster and .75 mph faster. btw, i use NGK plugs. just food for thought. btw it's a B8es plug

    we use the short filter on the 90 deg adopter, more room to get to it, napa 1068 filter, when changing filter i place a rag over header tubes , just food for thought.

    Rotating exhaust valves

    the multi groove locks allow the valve to rotate freely i read this in an article the intake locks grip the valve , the exhaust do do not. take a lock and grip it, then rotate the valve, i've done that, just food for thought

    we use a long bolt threaded into cam snout easy way to feed it through cam bearings. even using the oil pump drive gear will work, pushed into snout. also, we install cam with block upside down can reach in and hold the cam . just food for thought

    you have to elongate pushrod hole area, reason is they hit at max lift, i've done that for others . there's not much improvement for money spent, just food for thought. heads have to come off to elongate pushrod areas.

    pan evac does not work with mufflers, creates back pressure to engine. made for open headers only. i've seen this before, guy blew dip stick out, with pan evac, and mufflers, .just food for thought

    doesn't matter which caps, still needs to be align bored. the 273 caps are strong enough to support crank. also have to find a set of stock caps, from another block. stock caps are not available as new,

    Nice looking set of heads for the cast iron factory type of guys.

    nail head valves vs tulip on track was worth .20 and 2 mph in a 340 stocker, on flow bench was 8 cfm per port better times 8 = 64 cfm total. just food for thought. john is right ports look very big,

    Cam Grease?

    we use the moly grease on lobes and lifter bottoms, maxima oil makes a breakin oil, 10-30 or 10-40,. just food for thought.

    340 Help. Am I looking in the right spot to fix the issue

    what about the fuel system?? lack of fuel will cause those problems. in the tank is a sock on inlet, those get plugged up, and don't let engine get correct amount of fuel, also how about the fuel pump? on which side of fuel pump is the filter?
