    FiTech EFI Distributor Set Up

Can someone please explain to me how to set up my small block MSD distributor #8534, for use with Fitech EFI timing control. The advance is already locked out. I've watched a few videos online and I'm very confused. I'd prefer to hear from those who've done it because suggestions will just...

Lights flicker and gauge jumps around???

When I start the car sometimes, the voltmeter will read about 12V. If I rev the engine it will jump up to 14V at idle and stay. Took the alternator to the local parts store to have it tested Two stores tested it good, one said it didn't put out the proper voltage but the diodes tested good...

Lights flicker and gauge jumps around???

How do I check for open diodes in the rectifier? I'm sure I need to take the alternator apart but will it show when tested? I'm having the same issue. I have a new Ron Francis Express fuse box/wiring harness, 1 gauge battery cables, 6 gauge ground from battery to body in 2 places. The fuse box...

    Flickering Lights

No LEDs on the car. Everything was fine until I started putting miles on it. Fuel gauge flickers too. Reads full most of the time even when I know it's not.

    Flickering Lights

Been working too much to tackle the electrical gremlins. Will get on it this Monday. For the record, the factory bulkhead connector is long gone and the Ron Francis harness is "not" prewired. I went with a 120 amp alternator due to an electric fuel pump, cooling fans and other accessories. I...

    Flickering Lights

Sorry for the slow response. I installed a complete Ron Francis wiring harness. A '90 Dodge Ram 120 amp alternator with a Ron Francis voltage regulator which is mounted and grounded at the passenger kick panel. The factory bulkhead connector has been completely eliminated. I do have connectors...

    Flickering Lights

My lights flicker all the time. I've completely rewired the entire car. I have a ground wire from the battery to radiator core support to ground headlines, battery to the driver inner fender, another from battery to driver cylinder head. Rear of passenger head to the washer motor, from washer...

    Late Model Alternator Conversion

I'm using a Ron Francis regulator. New style gauges installed too. It's after 10:30 where I live so I will have to wait till tomorrow to crank the car up to check charging. Thanks.

    Late Model Alternator Conversion

I just installed a 1990 Dodge Ram 120 amp alternator on my '71 Duster and it's not charging. The vehicle has been completely rewired with a Ron Francis harness. Previously on the vehicle was a dual field square back alternator. One of the field connections was grounded to the alternator case...

Should alternator be putting out 13-14 volts?

I'd suggest getting rid of the factory voltage regulator. I installed a Ron Francis regulator in my '71 Duster with the factory alternator and it stays at 14V at idle. Although I have rewired the entire car . Just a thought.

    Ron Francis wiring

I rewired my '71 Duster with a Ron Francis Express kit. First I ordered his catalogue and was so impressed with all the information in it I was sold. Even though there was a cheaper kit I could have purchased. The kit was well laid out and was easy to install. The only thing I had to buy was...

Update - PROBLEM SOLVED!! alternator charging wide open!!!

I would get rid of the ammeter first. You can get a voltmeter and swap the ammeter face so it looks stock. I use a Ron Francis regulator. My alternator stays at about 14V at idle.

    voltage problems

What I meant by "normal" is the voltage drops at idle and goes up at rpm or speed.

    voltage problems

That's normal for Mopars with factory electronics. I'd replace the voltage regulator with an aftermarket one. I use the Ron Francis regulator with the factory alternator. My voltmeter is about 14V steady at idle.

4 speed safety switch - Help Needed

Instead of buying the factory switch which can get expensive do what I did. Take a brake lite switch, make an L bracket, drill 2 holes. One to mount the switch to the bracket, and another to mount the switch and bracket to the pedal assembly. Mount it so the clutch pedal tab engages the switch...

    cancel voltage regulator

That type of alternator has an internal regulator. Summit, Jegs has them. Power master is probably the most popular brand.

1 wire alternator and v.regulator elimination

From what I understand, the only wire needed is the one wire going to the battery.

    aftermarket cluster and gauges??

Yes I used an original cluster. Got a sheet of thin gauge steel from Home Depot and cut to fit.

    aftermarket cluster and gauges??

I fabbed my own using Equus gauges. I spent under $300 for everything including tachometer. They come with a twist on ring mount that makes it easy to install. You have to order one separately for the tach since it does not come with one. The speedometer uses the factory cable but it must be the...

    need help no-brake lights

You're right 67Dart273. I'm an idiot! I was thinking reverse lites. That brake lite wire goes into the white wire on the turn signal if you have the factory switch. I have the Ron Francis kit and that's how mine is wired.

    wiring harness kits

From what I've heard those "cheap" kits are just that. You will end up spending lots more money to complete your install with connectors that aren't included. I used the Ron Francis kit and I am very happy with it. Everything I needed was included. Even electric cooling fan capability. Didn't...

Why not simply run the wire from the brake lite switch directly to the brake lites. I recently rewired my Duster and done it that way.

    After market wire harnesses

I just finished rewiring my car with a Ron Francis kit. I am extremely happy with the way it turned out. The instructions were well laid out and color coded. I liked the fact that I could wire a particular circuit I was working on and run the wires "to" the fuse box. I never cared for a...

    wiring advice needed

I completely rewired my '71 Duster with an aftermarket harness. It was not as bad as it seems. The instructions were well laid out. I found that a lot of the accessories like door buzzers, delay relays, splices, and lots other junk you won"t be keeping anyway. Get a wiring diagram for your car...

Here's mine. I didn't want to cut the eyelet off the ground wire so I just mounted it near the battery.

I considered the Ron Francis WS-31 but is states that it does not work with wipers with hi and lo wires from the motor.
