MSN just post an article about the 10 Greatest Muscle Cars of All Times:
10. 1970 Buick GSX
9. 1968 Pontiace Firebird Coupe
8. 1969 Dodge Charger
7. 1970 Boss 302 Mustang
6. 1965 Pontiac GTO
5. 1970 Playmouth Hemi Cuda
4. 1970 Chevelle 454 SS
3. 1969 Z28 Chevy Camaro
2. 1966 Shelby Cobra 427
1. 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500

Curious, how many of you guys own one of these cars?

Most people of Mopar blood or other blood would disagree with this list. Many would also argue that the #2 spot is an exotic car and not a muscle car. Blue Oval boys would love to see the thunderbolt in there. Us Moparians would like to see the max wedge cars represented. All of that aside...to answer your question. I own zero but my cousin who is a ford guy has a boss 302. Its a nice car for a FURD.

I don't own it but I'm doing a restoration on number 4 now.

There is nothing Great about a 454SS Chevelle........... I have a 70 Cutlass, does that count? It's like a Chevelle, built with some quality.......

There was a guy when I was a teenager that had two yeah TWO of the # 10's.... About two miles from my house.I would drive by and drool..

No 69 1/2 6bbl car,No AAR or T/A WTF.No I disagree with that list.68 Firebird come on Please...

someone at MSNbc is smoking crack... #2 is a full blown track car, not a street car. There should be a mid 60's Max Wedge B body in there somewhere. If a 65 Goat made the list then a 64 Belvedere mos-def should have been in...

I'm not surprised that there are no Max wedge Dodge's or Plymouth's on this list. These cars in my opinion were some of the best Muscle Cars of all time. As usual, these Mopars are not recognized. This list is a bunch of B.S. (excluding the 2 Mopars listed)

If #2 made the list so should the 1968 LO 23 DART !!! JMO..

#2 always pops up on lists like this and I don't know why. Awesome car...... Without question, but it is a sports car not a Muscle car.

The hemi darts could not be licensed for street use, that's why they are never on the list.

Opinions are like a**holes everyone got one. Why did we choose Mopar over others? Because they're different. I used to be a camaro guy until I got exposed to Mopar. I haven't looked back since.

Come on guys. Good God. They are all cool american iron.

Certainly , a 1970 Buick GS-X ( especially with the Stage 2 package ) would be something I'd welcome into as a part of my dream collection .

Whenever I see "Pony" Cars ( T/A Javalin , Mustang , Camaro , Barracuda and Challenger small blocks) in these lists , I discount their presence . They're not -technically- Muscle Cars ; not unless they were equipped with a big block / Boss 429 / Hemi .

It seems that as time passes , the "Muscle Car" designation and its boundries become more and more obscured . Used to be limited to mid-sized American cars with minimal options / accessories and the biggest engine produced by their respective companies , from 1964-1971 ( GTO , Road Runner , 442 , Chevelle / Malibu , Super Bee , et al. ) ; they were not classified as such if they were a full-sized luxury car with a big motor
( Grand Prix , Catalina , Chrysler 300 , New Yorker , Impala , et al. ).

"Pony" Cars are small block , Trans-Am / road-course racing-specific cars ( '64-'69 273/340 Barracuda Formula S , '65-'66 Dart GT 273 ,'65-'66 260 / 298 Mustangs , '67-'73 302 / 350 Camaro Z-28 , '70 Challenger T/A , '70 Cuda AAR , 290-304-343 Javelin , '67-'74 Firebird Trans-Am 301/350 ).

Never-the-less , it's all opinion in regard to these "top" lists .
I like and enjoy all makes and models , even foreign cars ( mostly , Renault R5's and other Rallye cars ) , but they have no place on these lists ( not that this one does ... except for the exotic '66 Cobra A.C. 427 ) .

My Top 10 ( in no respective order of favour ) :

1. 1968-1970 Road Runner / Super Bee
2. 1967-1969 Dart / Barracuda 383 & 440
3. 1970 Buick GS-X Stage 1 ( and Stage 2 )
4. 1970 LS-6 Chevelle SS454
5. 1971 GMC Sprint SP-1 454
6. 1966 Belvedere Street Hemi
7. 1969 & 1970 Boss 429 Mustang
8. 1971 Matador "Machine" 401
9. 1971-1974 Javalin 401
10. 1971-1974 Road Runner / Charger R/T / Rallye 383-400-440

I know it's fashionable to call small block cars "Muscle Cars" now, but back in the day, I never considered anything south of 400 cubes a "Muscle" car. In my mind, "Muscle car" meant 400+ cubes, 400+ HP, and 400+ Torque.

Don't get me wrong, I loved them all, but, in my mind there was a definite split between what was a "muscle care" and what was a performance car. "Muscle car" meant just that, brute power. "Performance cars" had a little more finesse and handling to them.

For example:
A Hemi Cuda was a Muscle car, but an 340 AAR Cuda was a Performamce car.

A 427" Vette was a Muscle Car, but a 327 "Vette" was a Performance car.

A 429 Mustang was a Muscle car, but a 289 or 302 Mustang was a Performance car.

Just my 2¢

Muscle car is over used. The epitome of muscle car to me would be something like a post Road Runner with a 383 4 speed and drum brakes. All business, but still regular production.
