318 1/8 time improvement

Fifteen more minutes and you are at Lapeer. Bring it out this year.
Lapeer is about a hour, not too bad.. Ubly 90 mins... Milan almost 2 hours now since i moved to the boonies... Taking my 360 block to the machinist tomorrow.. hope to have it in the car before winter.

Thanks guys! Ya I first started off with a 1990 318 roller with a RV cam grind 208 @ .50 edelbrock 650 AVS with 3.91 gears. That combo Ran me 9.8 in the 1/8 mile.

Then I swapped some used magnum heads from the junk yard. But broke my 3.91 gear set and had some 3.55s I put in. I Ran a 9.3 in the 1/8 mile with that combo.

Then I swapped back in a set of 3.91, some cheap summit headers and a 2800 stall converter swapped to a Holley 600 cfm carb. Ran a 8.6 in the 1/8 mile.

Then lol I swapped in a used 5.9 ported the heads got a regrind camshaft 220 @.50 Ran a 8.3 in the 1/8 and got flagged for not having a helmet.

The only issue I have I believe it’s timing related, from 2000 rpms to 3000 with my initial timing at 15 degrees. I get a split second hesitation. When I retarded back to 12 initial that hesitation comes it from 1000 RPM thru 2000Rpms.

I have 22 degrees mechanical in my distributor. My car idles and runs best at 12 initial + 22 mech 34 Total but that hesitation is there. I’m thinking to take some timing out in the distributor to have my initial 12 degrees and 18 mechanical for 30 degrees.

Also did advance my camshaft 4 degrees is that has anything to do with it.

Probably will start with plugging my vacuum advance see if that’s a issue.

@Slantsix64, is fuel fest gonna charge $45 general admission PLUS $210 for test n tune too? Outrageous!
I paid $100 for a tnt at Irwindale during the covid hoax, my butt still hasn't recovered.

I ended up taking the distributor apart i found that the govenor did not have a stamp on it so i measured it. it measured at .470 which means it only had 15 degrees mechanical in the distributor. That is way too little with the 12 initial i would only have 27 degrees come in at 2800. which is not enough. So i opened it up to achieve 18 degrees at .520, lets see how she does.

Take a flashlight and look into the primary throttle bore. I'll bet your into the transfer slots if your Idle mixture screws want the circuit that lean. If your into the transfer slot already, when you come off the line the carb can lean out for a moment.

Take a cap off a vacuum port below the throttle blades. Put a piece of tape over the nipple and poke a 1/16 hole in the tape and re adjust your idle speed and I'll bet your idle fuel circuit responds. If it odes you need a small amount of "idle bypass air." with 110 lsa and 9:1 compression your probably pulling 16" of vacuum.

Google up idle bypass air and you'll understand how to tweak your off idle tune up.

@Slantsix64, glad you got signed up. Just checked the fuel fest site, tnt sold out?!?I find that incredible to believe, at $245!
Just goes to show, there should be a drag venue SOMEWHERE in socal, besides Barona and bakersfield.

Best time 1/4 mile at the fairplex
13.25 @103 MPH

Was hoping for a 12.99 but oh well in 95 degree weather not too bad.

Things I’m going to do is change out my fuel lines to 3/8 lines. It felt like my motor was starving after 5200 RPMS then I would hear it pinging only in the upper rpms. I’ll do the lines first then add an electric fuel pump.
