I've asked this before but I feel a bigger cam would be better.......

What I have going in is the comp xe268.

What I'm thinking about is a Herbert cam

The set up will be...

302 heads 188-160 ported to flow about 220cfm and maybe milled to raise cr
Stock bottom end 40 over I think 8.1 compression
Edel air gap
650 dp
Hooker headers
Manual v.b 904 lower first gear 2800 stall
3.91 s.g
Stock ignition

And still debating on a 125-150 shot of juice

So what do you think I'm debating on selling the comp cam I have sitting at home and getting the Herbert cam..... Thanks

I wouldn't bother. My guess is the herbert is a slower lobe. If you are going to go up a bit in duration/lift, get a XE274H if staying hydraulic.

Slower love meaning the 106 lobe separation vs the 110 lobe Sep from comp?

Think of the lobe as climbing a hill.

The slope on the XE cam is steeper than that of the Herbert cam. The valve lifts faster with the XE. The herbert is probably a chevy based lobe which has a slower lift rate.

If you are wanting to bottle it, the XE cam is a better choice as well, you want a wider lobe separation angle.

Let me look around here and see if I have a XE274H.

No, the seat duration is 285 as opposed to 274 for the XE mentioned. They both have the same duration at .050" so the Herbert cam opens the valve more slowly. In your case, with low static compression, you want to keep seat timing as short as possible.
Worst case scenario was a Performer RPM cam I inherited in a low comp. 318. It lost so much bottom end I doubt it would have spun the tyres on ice.

I think the 268 is just right for a modded teen.

So now either keep the 268 or get the 274... Would I benefit from the more lift and dur
