360 or 340?

-
Also, 340 blocks are super expensive.. Like 1200 bucks for a core block! At least around here they are
I see rebuilt 340s with asking prices of $15,000 and more. 360s are plentiful and cheap. Many off the shelf pistons offer proper compression and available in all alloys. 1.88 LA heads work great but can be punched out to 2.02.

I just searched extensively for a forged piston that would put my 360 Magnum at 8.5:1 compression for a mild boost application. My results? Every Hyper and forged "off the shelf" offering would RAISE compression of the smog era LA 360 and even the 360 Magnum. My point is there is an ABUNDANCE of affordable pistons that are perfect for that hot fun street 360 build. BTW- I went with Auto Tec dished forged pistons. $650. On paper the compression would be 9.25:1 In my Magnum heads I have polished the chambers and will run a slightly thicker head gasket.
