Quick question, I have a 70 duster running a 340 with Ross12.1s, scat 416 bottom end, brodex heads, lunati valve train, highrise an a domintor an other odds an ends, Cope Racing 904-4 prostreet trans as well, it is still street driven(no highway only local shows/meets an icecream runs) running 275/55r14 dot Hoosier quick times, I am trying to decide on either 4.10s or 4.56s any thoughts, mainly run 1/8th mile at local track
- heres this sry forgot to add the cam specs ididn't think about it, it's a 600/600 full roller 3200-7200, 3500 stall, eddy super vic, if you need anything else let me know I built the motor have the full build sheet, pretty sure gonna go with 4.56s

Saying it has a Lunati valve train doesn't mean squat. Lunati makes numerous cams, some are nearly stock and others wild solid rollers. Same goes for saying it has a high rise. What high rise???? A Edelbrock performer or a Super Victor, or??? Most all aftermarket intakes are high rises and each has a different rpm range. From now on if you want someone to guess what'll work give ALL the specs.

My vague guess is since you say it's mainly a 1/8th mile car I'd guess the 4.56's. But again without knowing what cam it has I have no idea on the rpm range so it's just a ballpark guess

Please don't take this as I'm being a smart ax. Think of it this way. What if I told you I have a 68 Cuda with a 408 and a big solid cam and a big 4 barrel and asked how quick do you think it'll be in the 1/4 mile with the info I gave you. See what I mean? You'd have no clue what it'd do cause I left so much out.

Welcome to FABO!

I agree with fishy that we don't no much.......But if the cam matches the heads & compression, and considering just local use and the occasional 1/8th pass.....I'd go 4.56's...at least.

Man, back in my day those were entry level gears. 4.88's & 5.13's were actually common with small blocks. Not to mention the 56' Nomad with a tunnel ram/roller cam'd 327 and 5.38"s. :D

If it works for you, go for it!

your rightwhen i was 16 in 1986 my 440 73 charger ralley had 4.56's what a blast!!

6.17's ?? just kidding. If you do limited street driving and plan to run 1/8 mile track then 4.56 would be my pick. Back in high school my street car was a 340 Duster 4 speed with 5.13's. Never drove it more than 10 miles from home and speed limits back then were 55 max. Oh yea, the 617's were in a buddy's 69 Camaro..........

I run 4.30 it is a great gear with the same tires you have.

My 2 cents; at least 4.88's, more like 5.13's, if you are mostly racing 1/8th mile.

Some thing to think about:

I also race 1/8th, same size tire, a M/T 275/60x15 drag radial, I've run 6.98@ 97.02, with 4.88 gears in the back, I was turning 5680rpm when I crossed the stripe. The car is a 65 Barracuda, with a 360.

my almost stock 68 340 ran 13:20's with 3:23 and 12;70 w 4:56... i would try some 3:55 or 3:91..good driving and still good E.T..

Not an A body but I just put 4.56's in my truck 318 4 speed OD I love them! Pulls hard as hell but still has some legs under it for the long run as well..
