64 Dart Power Steering Conversion?

Has anyone converted a 64 Dart from manual steering to power steering? I am asking because someone told me that in order to do this you must also replace the steering column shaft because the manual column shaft is longer than the power steering column shaft. Is this true or false?

Yes, the power one is shorter than the standard one. If you want you can short your axle and weld it togethersomewhere where iot's covered by the tube.

Yes, it is true. And the "cut and weld" technique is chancy (as in, you're taking the chance that the weld will break and leave you with sudden loss of steering control).

I have a complete '64 Dart power steering changeover with newly-rebuilt box, new pitman arm, correct steering shaft, pressure hose, and two pumps and two sets of pump brackets (Saginaw, Thompson) — send me a PM if you'd like to buy it.

If going to power there is no welding needed on the column. Cut the shaft to length drill a hole and move the pin up into the new hole and install the power steering coupler.

If I remember the couplers at the box splines differ in size. The manual is larger diameter than the power coupler but shaft size(diameter) should be the same. I may be wrong.
