I plan to use rope caulk around the outside and tape across the top as it was applied on the originals.

Where did you get the caulk. Every harware store used to have that... Looked at Home Depot last week and couldn't find it. I am going to put back panels in the duster soon. Got some plastic at work that was on its way to the dumpster, lol. The plastic on mine was in little bits. Also, what tape are you talking about? I think they just used the caulk on my '75.

Hi Kieth. Yep It was hard to find but I did track it down at home depot.
I founded it mixed in by the frost king stuff for sealing windows and garage doors.
If you can't find it by you PM me your mailing address.

I have more than I need in this box.

First run at cleaning up the interior Emblems.
I'm not sure about the paint color or technique yet.

Keep or redo? What say you?

I used to renovate and sell mopeds when I was in my late teens. We didn't always replace all the bearings in the engine/gear box. What we eventually learned to tell people who thought the Sachs engine had a rattle to it was: I think you should buy a NEW moped. That usually made them realize they were paying less than 1/5 of the price of a new moped and they were getting something that looked great and ran just fine. But it wasn't new.

I think your emblems look great. But they'll never pass for new, will they? So the question is if you want new or if you can accept the fact that this stuff is close to 50 years old.

LoL thank you Anders. I see the point in your story.
These pieces are actually in very good shape for originals and I like the color of the paint now it has dried. I touched up a few spots and put them on the car.

On to the package tray, and door cards.

Really nice work & attention to details as always.

I had the door panels off the Demon recently to replace the window sweeps & just used blue painters tape to reattach the original vapor barriers. How come you didn't post about the rope caulk earlier ?? LOL :)

Can't wait to see your build when it's done!!

I would have posted it up sooner but I get side tracked a lot lately.

I keep having visions like those old movie scenes where they take the car out for a test drive and every thing including the wheels fall off! Lol it's a real nightmare. I keep thinking what did I forget to do.:)

Still waiting for the wiper motor to come in. so I can start on the dash.

Why did you not buy the package tray with the factory cutouts, where you can hid the speakers under the package tray?

I like the vintage look of the Big mesh grills on the deck over the look of stock flat package tray. IT reminds me of how we used to do it when we were kids. And if you remember the speakers used have a vibration because they would push too much air passed the stock holes.

I guess if I don't like it I could always replace it :)

I picked up a nice set to of a pillar trim from Tony and dyed them black. No not black #1 but a nice shade.

I also picked up a replacement carpet from classic industries. They are selling the OER molded product. I have to tell you I am not impressed. When I took the carpet out of the box you could hardly tell it was heat pressed! The only evidence that it was treated were 2 slightly molded corners on the back section and no it was not apparent at all for corners .
But more than that was the very rough appearance of the trimmed edges. The advertising says molded and trimmed to fit your application. I ask do they use a dull hacksaw blade?!

I wouldn't be so critical if it weren't so pricey.

Anyway I will make it work.

That is good info. I plan to change my carpet also at some point. Does anyone on here have a good experience as far as where to get a good quality carpet kit? Please chime in :)

I ended up putting the carpet in and it eventually laid down nicely. One caveat was that the was a 4 in section along the side on the back was trim about an inch to short and keeps popping out from under the trim. I will end up gluing this part down to hold it in place.
 
Polk Audio 6x9 3 way rated at 400W max. 100W per channel.
I think they look real good.

I love Polk Audio stuff. The package tray looks awesome with those bad boys in there!

Did you restore those lower trim pieces at the bottom of the inner quarter panels (the chrome pieces that line up with the sill plates), or did you find a new pair? The pair that came out of my car are in terrible shape (bad pitting and gouges). I have yet to come up with a good solution for this problem.

Those are the original aluminum pieces. I buffed and polished them. The chrome trim at the tops of the panel are originals also. They needed to be cleaned and polished too.

I don't think mine can be buffed and polished because they are pitted and gouged so bad.
