This should get things going...

What do you guys use for rod and main bearing assembly lube?

Have seen so many things I am totally unsure...

Thanks!

Oil, and lots of it. I also like to run my oil pump to prime system before first start.

hi use motor oil only!!! the lube doesn't wash out!! I repaired a marine motor that was assembled with the assembly lube, they lost some of the bearings because the lube didn't wash out. I used motor oil, runs just fine. I've seen this before.

Lubriplate 105 and motor oil with it. NEVER a problem. Also use Chilles and Albert assembly oil with the Lubriplate 105. Heavier than reg. motor oil and will not run off the parts like oil will if the engine is sitting for any time at all.

Ok not to highjack this thread but on the same not how long can you have a fresh short block sit with assembly on the bearings

My engine will be sitting for a while before I run it but I figure some of the oil will still be on the mains and I plan to prime the oil pump once the engine is in the car before start up.

hi, do yourself a favor, prime it before installing motor in car. the reason being, if you have a pressure issue, you can remove the pan easier on a stand. in the car, is a nightmare.

If you use Lubriplate 105 not more than 2-3 months. That stuff will turn to glue if your motor sets for to long. No rumor, this is a life experience. I use Clevite 77 Bearing Gaurd asembley lube. And I prime the engine on the stand and right before I crank it.

Clevite (or others') red assembly lube, or a slurry of white lithium and straight 30wt oil, depending on the storage duration. Always prelube and do not do it with the starter in the car.
