big block vs. smal block

-
I believe my son and I have a good comparison, as we both run very similar times in the quarter. Mine is a 73 Dart Sport with a 440 +.030 with a balanced stroker rotating assembly bringing it to 512 cu.in. It has 10.5:1 compression, Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, and intake. Pro System 950HP carb, Comp 585 lift cam, and Schumacker TriY headers into 2.5" exhaust. Behind that is a 3500 stall converter to a 727 trans. Out back is a narrowed 8.75 with 3.55 gears and minitubbed. The car is very docile on the street and runs on pump gas. My son has a 70 Dart Swinger with a 360 block with a balanced stroker rotating assembly bringing it to 408cu.in. It has 13.8:1 compression, highly modified Eddy Performer RPM heads, a modified Airgap Intake, Pro System carb. Mechanical roller cam (unsure of specs.) Hooker supercomp headers to 3" exhaust. Behind that is a modified 4-speed back to a 8.75 with 4.10 gears, and minitubbed. His car is nowhere near as streetable as mine and needs to run at least 110 octane gas.

how close are they in the 1320?

I've run a 11.78 @116.16 in full street trim. My son has run 11.79 @115 in street trim.

But was that run on street tires, in full street trim, including the spare and lawn chairs in the trunk. Look at the MPH.
Tech let you dig the 1320 with all that junk in the trunk? impressive.. most impressive..
up here if i got a beer bottle cap loose in the trunk.. DENIED lol.

The spare was secured in the tire well, and the chairs were strapped down, not going anywhere. Besides at local T&T's the trunks are very seldom checked.

That car belongs to my 25yo son. It's the car we built for him while he was in high school. It's been mostly in hibernation for five years or so, but was reasonably competitive in SoloII (but not in it's class, which was CP where lighter small block cars rolled out of enclosed trailers with 100 more horsepower, at least).

This is my younger son's big block a-body:

And my future big block a-body:

And my wife's small block a-body:

And, the last big block a-body that we sold in late 2006:

There have been a couple other a-bodies (66 Dart GT and 66 Barracuda) go through my hands, but I tend to keep cars forever.

Big block. Reason is that parts are the same price, torque is king and AL heads are cheaper for B/RB's. Go figure?
