Affordable? Your kidding me right? Have you priced a set of Doug's headers lately? They are like $650 a pair
Long gone are the days when you could get a set of headers and a cam for a Chevy for under 100 bucks.
Throw in another hundred a get a intake manifold topped with a Holley and chrome air cleaner.
I could go on but I won't because I'm making much more money than I did 45 years ago and prices went up to match.

wow. don't go looking at TTI's then.

if anything Doug's have gotten cheaper over the years. i remember when they were pert near a smooth G in late 90's money.

if you want cheap take up needle point or something dan. Michael's has killer sales and shoots out crazy coupons all the time, you can convert your garage into a craft room.
Maybe quilting car show T Shirts into cool car quilts

exactly. if you wanna play cinderella that glass slipper is gonna cost you.

buy something that meets the basics and build out your dream machine from there. in relative terms it's still an affordable hobby but you have to do a lot of the work yourself.
Buy a Basic Car. Run duel exhaust with cheap Summit exhaust kit off the manifolds.
New up to date hoses, belts, tires, fluids. Add wheels later...why did I Un Block you....Déjà vu is a *****

Sorry, but that's not funny. Don't quit your day job

Should have seen one of the first, was it the first? car JYH ran at Willow Springs track day!
You're talkin about the man who knows how to build good cars cheap cheep (little birdie prices)

Seriously man. A car is one of the most expensive items most people buy - that's why most people buy them on loans of some sort. Cars by their nature are not cheap. You want cheap transportation - look at classic bicycles. Although even there, there are exceptions. We were buying lunch as we headed off on a road trip and a local guy comes in with a 9 speed Raliegh. Talk about rare! Sturmey -Archer 3 speed and a derailer. Only made for a few years. Late 40s or maybe 50s. For a while rod brake bikes were a thing around here, epsecially in odd sizes like with 28" rims. Just a couple of examples.

ahhh the salad days when we were all more handsome and thinner!

but yeah man, El Dart-O-Matic was dumb, cheap, fun. i'd say it was built on a beer budget but lord knows i wasn't about to be appropriating funds from that department.

you don't have to be rich to have fun. you don't have to have the nicest, fastest or best car to enjoy yourself. this hobby is, or can be as affordable as you make it to be. but to start out you have to want it. you can't be lazy, nobody is going to give you a car and it's certainly not gonna drop out of the sky into your driveway. you gotta look at a lot of junk to find that lump of coal to make into a diamond.

dan supposedly "has the money" to buy potentially a very nice car but he just won't pull the trigger; there's always some lame excuse. i don't know, maybe he doesn't have the vision of what something can be, doesn't have the talent to make it happen, or maybe he just likes being a tire kicking time waster. who's to say.

this much i do know: you gotta take that chance and ask the cute girl to the big dance. otherwise you're just gonna be at home stroking the bone.

That's a good idea
Classic car hobby is not hard to get into nor is it expensive. I mean, they are cars, so they aren't .55 cents... But anyone with any income can basically own a classic car. But if a guy says it has to be a Hemi Superbird that Richard Petty owned, well, that's different :) I sold a '64 Rambler Classic, a pretty nice car that ran good, for what.... 3k?? or something like that?? People pay more than that for their garden tractor... lol

Look at this little gem.... with a factory BED in it !!!! :D

A guy was asking $65,000 for his 1976 Dodge Aspen, I laughed, like I said it's becoming a joke. Guys are trying to drive up the value of the A bodies to match the b,c,e bodies only to run off the average person
We’ve been through all this several times with you in the past. If you don’t have a car by now with all the leads you’ve been given, it’s because you don’t really want a car. There are hundreds of decent cars out there for less than whatever your phantom budget limit is. Part of the hobby is finding something and making it into exactly what you want. If you’re not willing to do that, then the hobby isn’t for you.

No need to comment any longer, Dan bowed out. We had a convo. Thread closed.

There's no " secret " cam specs as the cam has to be factory stock, there's no secret or special combination as I've said the car has to be as it rolled off the show room floor. The hobby any more is just a joke.
You need to read the rules for the class you're wanting to run in.
It is ( was), I get tired of checking out cars that are supposed to be what I'm looking for only to find out they are a basket case
I got tired of looking for a good used pickup in the 70's....a 4 year old 'perfect' truck at a lot and when I got there, it was a bondo bucket. Grow a pair or get out of the boat.
I think that we are talking about two different classes as the one I'm speaking of requires that the engine and car be as it came from the show room
Pure stock? Don't know what the classes say anymore as it's been years since running in a stock class plus they are not all the same as they were nearly 60 years ago. A buddy used to run SS/O with a 56 Chevy. Had to run a 265 since that was the biggest available in that car back then BUT...he could run ANY transmission so he chose a 5 speed. Hey, they didn't come with 5 speeds back then but the 'fool' book says he could run any trans....just can't use all 5 speeds. Pick the gears that work the car for the best pass. Carb....stock but it could be 'tweaked' for best performance. I could go on and on with every part that was used. The car ran mid 11's (this is 45 years ago now) launching at 9k and shifting around 9k. Pick your poison. I fell in love with bracket racing even though I hated it at first. Having the slowest car at the track beating the fastest was pretty fun...except going slow all the time ain't all that fun. For me, going fast and being consistent is half the fun and the competition is the other half. @Dan the man
