Gathering up my "how to books", even the one on how to build big inch small block mopar. Articles on pure stock and others, all are being donated, I should've known better when these guys claim the horsepower and times they are running with nothing other than blueprinted engines, it's all a bunch of BS. The only true way to find out what and what doesn't work is to do it yourself.

trying to do the same with magazines. used to be the thing to get at swap meets. took a 20 plus year break. now, I find out they can't give them away. maybe get a stove in the garage and use them for heat. BTW, their builds probably work, just not telling everything else that went into it. best thing to do, is make the best of what you have and enjoy it1

Okay.
What prompted this sudden decision?
You do realize that Pro or competitive racers will NEVER give out the full details of their builds, just the obvious generalities...
Right?
Just ask anyone running a car in stock class NHRA to divulge their REAL cam or engine build specs and you'll get laughed at.
These people have spent many years sorting their combinations out, and closely guard their secrets.
Wouldn't you?

Or are you just getting out of the hobby all together and this is an excuse to?

There's no " secret " cam specs as the cam has to be factory stock, there's no secret or special combination as I've said the car has to be as it rolled off the show room floor. The hobby any more is just a joke.

A guy was asking $65,000 for his 1976 Dodge Aspen, I laughed, like I said it's becoming a joke. Guys are trying to drive up the value of the A bodies to match the b,c,e bodies only to run off the average person

You're kidding me, right?
Have you ever heard in person one of the NHRA stock eliminator cars idling?
They are very choppy. (and sound insanely cool)
I think that they are limited to factory lift and configuration for the year and displacement (hydraulic lifters).
Listen to these ones.
They sure sound like factory stock cams to me...lol

May be the hobby just isn't for you.

They sound like my friends drag car. Because they are.
Even Dan could not have thought that they were stock with blue printed engine's and stacked tolerances for the best.
And I guess FAST Factory Appearing is the same too.

I think that we are talking about two different classes as the one I'm speaking of requires that the engine and car be as it came from the show room

If you're talking about the FAST series, those cars make look the part, but they're far from stock

Dan. Let me say this.
There are no rules that say you have to have a car to be here, and talk about them.
Sometimes the dreams we have are just beyond our limits. Be it physical , financial, whatever.
Just enjoy your life the best you can. You only get one.

It is ( was), I get tired of checking out cars that are supposed to be what I'm looking for only to find out they are a basket case
You get to "check all the boxes" on a new car order. Cars that are 50+ years old are what they are, and what the previous 10+ owners did to them. You have to buy the basic car you want and either build your exacts or pay somebody to do it for you. I find this hobby VERY affordable

Affordable? Your kidding me right? Have you priced a set of Doug's headers lately? They are like $650 a pair

wow. don't go looking at TTI's then.

if anything Doug's have gotten cheaper over the years. i remember when they were pert near a smooth G in late 90's money.

if you want cheap take up needle point or something dan. Michael's has killer sales and shoots out crazy coupons all the time, you can convert your garage into a craft room.

exactly. if you wanna play cinderella that glass slipper is gonna cost you.

buy something that meets the basics and build out your dream machine from there. in relative terms it's still an affordable hobby but you have to do a lot of the work yourself.
