When I bought my car years ago it came with 70s Challenger front pin type disc brakes on the front. I like the brakes well enough, but I've been trying to work out some funny pedal feel and lockup issues I've had recently and one of the things on my list is to replace the soft lines. The factory setup on these calipers has the hose coming straight out of the caliper toward the center of the wheel (radially compared to the spindle). It routes it right under the upper ball joint and generally just seems less than great when it comes to how it bends through the wheel cut. I also toyed with the idea of trying to swap knuckles side to side so I could mount the brakes on the rear instead of the front, but the factory style hoses nixed that idea pretty quickly.

So all that said, is it possible to convert to banjo style fittings? Seems like that would give me a lot more options when it comes to routing, but I'm not sure how they would seal if the caliper wasn't meant for them to begin with. I'm looking at moving to braided stainless lines when I replace what I've got, so I figured it was a good time to look back into this while I'm in there. Worst case I can still run factory style as they seem to work well enough, but if I can smooth it out with better routing I'd feel better.

I don’t see why you couldn’t change to PTFE lined SS braid hose and steel AN fittings. Just ensure you use crush or dowty washer on the banjo. Here’s some links. Use the item code from Earls on Summit and the item will pull up. We use Earls, XRP, aeroquip or Goodridge, depending on application

I like using the PVC coated hose like this.

Don’t forget to get the correct banjo bolt.

I did see one braided SS kit that just converted to AN fittings on both sides. If I did that I could probably just use a straight fitting out of the caliper and run a 90 degree hose end on the tube itself. I just wasn't sure what the thread on the existing caliper is. I thought it was more like a brake line fitting with a taper seal at the tip than one that sealed at the threads themselves. I guess maybe that's just a 45 degree taper seal (or whatever the angle is, I don't fully recall).

I run banjo fitting with challenger pin type calipers. The surface needs to be machined where the copper washer seal. They should be on those calipers.

My brakes used to be rear mounted before I ran hochkis upper control arms. These braided hoses did not work with front mounted calipers. I used the hollow bolts that come with 73-76 A-body slider calipers.

I would have needed longer braided hose for front mounted calipers.
