3 of the cam bearings in my 318 were cracked. Do I have a cracked block? I JUST bought this motor today, was supposed to be pretty fresh.

magnaflux time!

Bearings will crack from heat

Could be anything. If the block is cracker the bearings would simply turn in the bore so I'd think that part is probably ok.

Are you sure they are cracked? Some of them have a parting line (usually somewhat invisible) from the factory- if it is visible, somebody probably put them in with the wrong or no toole- If they are very straight lines, that is likely what you are seeing...

Take a look at this. Yeah, I'm sure it's cracked.

Ok, that's not cracked. That's delaminated. No big deal. Just replace the bearings and make sure the cam rotates freely by hand with the new bearings. Those bearings are not new.

some definitions of pretty fresh could mean a power wash and some paint.

Awesome! That makes me HAPPY! No, they are not new. The rod and main bearings are though, right on! Thank you so much! That's what I needed to know.
