Deepwater Horizon not an oil spill

-
i agree losing 11 guys is tragic, but at the same time there are serious issues that need to be delt with at this time. plastering their names and all on the news isn't going to clean up the freaking mess that BP has made.

call this oil mess anything you want. bottom line it is a clusterfuck that should never have happened. if ya don't know what to do in an emergency then you shouldn't be drilling in the first place. this **** isn't ever going to be cleaned up as it should be. its just not possible. i'm definatley not a tree hugger but dam these assholes at BP just gave the enviro crowd all the ammo they ever needed.

i also think its pathetic that 30 years later we still haven't found a way to deal with this ****. they are trying the same crap they tried and failed at 30 freaking years ago..

now you have the CEO of BP saying they wern't prepared to deal with this.

PENSACOLA, Fla. – BP fumbled its latest underwater experiment with the wild Gulf gusher — just like every other endeavor the company has tried to fix the nation's worst oil spill and important BP'schief executive said the company wasn't fully prepared for the disaster.

The Financial Times on Thursday quoted BP CEO Tony Hayward as saying it was "entirely fair" to criticize the company's preparations.

The newspaper quotes Hayward as saying: "What is undoubtedly true is that we did not have the tools you would want in your tool kit."

this bull **** comes down to greed. these guys should be going over what to do in every event they can possibly imagine. hell its not like this has never happened before. why aren't they prepared? because it probably cost money to have guys sitting in a conference room once a week or once a month going over different things and plans of action in case something like this **** happens. to me thins is pathetic and unacceptable that its been blowing oil for a freaking month now.

aside from all the environment and wildlife they are have fucked up for years and years, the entire coast is going to be hurting financially big time. had a buddy that was in the FLA. keys last week. could have got a room anywhere because of all the cancellations. people canceled because they don't want to spend all the money on a vacation only to get to the beach and have in covered in oil. no the oil wasn't there yet but people aren't taking the chance.

this oil spill is a disaster and heads had better roll for this.

Chuck. Thank you for your commentary. While I have not expressed any feelings about this (openly or otherwise) I have not thought about the issue from your perspective.

I am slow to judge, because I know the media are salespeople, and they will slant the issue any way they think will attract more consumers for their advertisers. Before reading your posts, the media was the only perspective I have been afforded.

A really interesting comparison I could not help but make is to other tragedies that have happened in recent years. I'm sure I don't need to mention them by name. In those cases, no faceless business was to blame, and media coverage focused on the loss of life of individuals directly impacted. Obviously "corporate neglegence" and "government responsibility" sell more Coke and Levis than compassion for loss of life. And while the media is grossly misrepresenting the facts, it is the general publics morbid curiosity and "witch hunt" mentality that is truly to blame. If the American consumer cared more about humanity than finger pointing, the media machiine would be selling that instead. Since I am an American consumer, I am going to stand up right now and appologize for my ignorance.

Its been a while since my latest post and for that I am sorry guys. My wife has had me busier than a cat covering up **** and work has been even worse LMAO. Not much has changed since I have been away but the facts will hit the surface long after this has died down. Like always... America will still think the guys out there working on these oil rigs are complete idiots. From what I have learned and looked at via video footage etc. BP made a horrible couple of mistakes and all the stars ligned up in a perfect line. First they did not secure mud losses prior to cementing or maybe but they did but were on the verge of breaking down the well so they pumped nitrogen enriched cement and then did not evaluate the cement with logging. They also did not lock the casing in place with a lock down ring and this is the most F*(ded up part. Since there was no good cement holding the casing the casing was virtually hanging with no cement holding it and allowing gas to migrate on the outside and buildup pressure. I also saw where the numbers were crunched by a guy way smarter than me and probably most of us where the casing weight was figured up and that it would only take a couple thousand PSI on the back side pushing inward on the casing to part (pull into). This is what I expected but this guy drew it out like a road map. Watching the news and video stream while they cut the section of riser off they had to cut through an extra joint of pipe that was not expected... This is what we will find out after the oil has stopped flowing and the well is secure when the media stops pounding it. My theory is this - The casing parted and was shot upward into the BOP's when this happened and the guys tried to shut in they weren't capable to seal off around the casing with the pipe rams. Even if they could have the damn thing would still flow between the casing and the drill pipe. Aint that a *****, the guys didnt even have a chance when that happened. Yes it is equipped with shear rams but the blind shear rams that seal off will not cut through casing and drill pipe. The super shear rams will not seal but might have cut through both joints of pipe. They were screwed either way you look at it. The lockdown ring was not run due to a couple of factors. They did not want to take the time to run it do to day rate. They didnt run it because there wasn't one readily available.... Who knows but I think this is why there are 11 people dead and a well flowing at the seabed. Good news is it looks like the cap they are installing now will catch all of the oil and gas and be able to handle it. The reason they arent putting something on top and just turning it off is due to the fact if they do the next sizes of casing the well is now flowing by due to the shitty cement will not handle that kind of pressure. if they were to just plug it or cap it it would blow that casing out and within a matter of minutes be leaking or breach around the well head with no way to contain it. Sorry for the long write up here but I got carried away and figured some people might be curious. Take care folks. Sorry for your loss in income canttuchmymopar... I really wish this wouldn't have happened to anyone and human beings can do amazing things and overcome anything if we put our minds to it. I hope this turns around for you and you can cary on with life as you used to know it or maybe even better.

I agree about the loss of life being put out of the spot light, we haven't seen anything yet, It's not so much that it's the oil that is toxic, it's the gasses and other elements that are coming out with the oil.. People need to do "fact" research on what's going on and not rely on the government and BP for your info, blind sheep being led to slaughter...

This isn't a political post, if any of y'all want to know what's REALLY going on in the gulf, watch this series of videos on youtube with this guy, you're not going to hear any of this truth from BP, media, EPA or the government about this spill.. This guy knows what he's talking about...

Sorry for the losses of the families and friends... but I'd get myself in trouble if I said anything else so I won't. I'll keep it at, BP sucks.

First off thank you Chuckwagon and Greenhornet for the enlightenment. I am ashamed to say that I didn't give much thought to the loss of life until now. Being from Alabama, all of the coverage was about the impact on tourism and industry in the gulf.
I work in manufacturing, but have a degree in Psychology. Most people know that there are 2 instinctive ways to deal with threat - fight or flight, but there are also 2 ways to deal with tragedy - blame someone or try to forget about it. When we don't have a clear antagonist we either create one (BP) to villinize, or try to pretend it didn't happen. The media didn't dwell on the loss of life because there was no clear killer to go after and people didn't push for that knowlege because, deep down, we don't want to know. Once brought to light, it is shameful.
I don't have the right to say drilling is bad because I use petrolium products like they are going to be illegal tomorrow. The problems we are going to be facing in the gulf are horrible, but we will get past it, we always do.
My condolances and prayers to the friends and families of those lost.

I dunno, I guess the reality of the whole mess most americans just wanna block it out of their minds, we'll never know the truth... Ever who at BP that said "keep drilling" needs to be in jail right now waiting on their murder trials... Theres no justice anymore, if you're in bed with our government you have a free pass to do what ever you want to whom ever you want and get away with it.. Both partys are guilty, "SOMETHINGS GOTTA CHANGE"....
