Did dodge release a 71 challenger T/a 440?

-
The myth was started early, decades ago, so many believed it - but it is a myth.

Show your pal this link, see the third page at the link below. Both hoods were announced in the same brochure. ;-)

The 1970 Hamtramck Registry - What's New From Dodge - 1970

Cannot gaurantee his car was effected by this although it did have a T/A hood in 1982 when I first met him .

But here is an original owner Hemi car that owner says same thing happened to him . He forced the dealer to replace the hood with a shaker unit .

Black Ghost: The mysterious 1970 Challenger that dominated Detroit street racing

The car at that link is not coded N94 for a T/A hood - or - N96 for a shaker hood, so it came with the standard steel twin scoop hood. ;-)

So the dealer in this case forgot to order the shaker ?

Has everyone missed the fact that the hood had hinges! T/A and A12 hoods do not have hinges.

Correct with the 1969 A12 cars.

The AARs and T/As had hood hinges just with lighter weight springs than the steel hood cars though. ;-)

So the dealer in this case forgot to order the shaker ?

You could ask the dealer I suppose? But at the time of the cars build, neither the N94 or N96 hoods were available on any Challenger models. ;-)

Oh ... you are saying that neither were available so they couldn't have used a T/A hood ?
We will have to start another thread on this so as not to hijack the OPs.

If it was not even available yet, how could they use one?

in 1970 you could get a t/a with the 440 six pack. How do I know I had one. Also my father work at Dodge Main from 1958 to it’s closing one of two plants that assemble them. At that time you could order any combination you want. This was also after Chrysler fill their obligations of so many 340 cars for the trans am racing. I’ve never seen a 1971. All this about hoods and shortages isn’t true. You ordered it you got it. My brother also had a 70 challenger with a 340 3 speed. There was no wrong or right. At that time if you work there. You could follow the car down the assembly line which my father did. We ordered our cars from Garity motors in hamtramack mich. got order numbers from dealer and time of build.

Well lets see the car and fender tag because there NEVER EVER was a T/A or AAR with anything but a 340 six pack otherwise I call bullshit. Welcome to FABO.

This type of thread always brings up the ‘I/my uncle/sisters boyfriends brother/other had a Duster/Valiant/Demon with a hemi in it from the factory!’

The hood replacement is a myth.

The shaker hood was re-introduced at the same time as the T/A hood availability in 1970.

The T/A hood was available as an option on non-T/A performance cars at that time and into the early part of the 1971 model year when it was cancelled.
Didn't Godfrey Qualls somehow end up with a T/A Hood and a shaker hood for his 1970 Hemi Challenger? You never know what can happen with Ma Mopar...even if you have to sue her. LOL

You could by the parts from the parts counter. Nothing special about that.

They had over the counter performance parts catalog too. And there was even a drawing of a T/A hood on it.

Did the car have?:
side exhaust with tips
T/A side stripes
Ducktail spoiler
Larger size rear tires than front

Now I've heard factory workers loading up a their own purchased car with assembly line parts and options that the car was not coded and paid to have.

That car would not be coded for nor on the window sticker for those options. But you'd have to have verified dated pictures to prove that. Usually not something people did since it would get them fired at minimum.

Now if a car had "lunch pail" parts added to it, those parts would have to be available at that plant. You are not slipping in a 340 at a C-body only Plant since they wouldn't even have those motors on site.

Although not t/a, this snippet from a few years back does lend credence to the fact that the t/a hood could be ordered on other than 340-6.
