I have a 91 carburated 318 I am redoing, and I am curious about what I should do with the dist. and ignition. If I go with an aftermarket ignition system, do I need a new distributor as well, or can I keep what I have?
You can go with an aftermarket ignition without changing the dizzy. They each have thier own instructions for the hookup. My advice though would be to go with one system all the way through. The parts are made to work together and therefore should work a little better and nowadays a lot of the systems are plug and play. I run an MSD system and I don't know how it could get any easier or more reliable. The only part I bought new is the dizzy, so I saved a bunch that way and got a good system.
